One of my hens hatched 10 chicks from fertilized eggs I obtained from another flock on June 29, 2024. So, they're about 5 weeks old. All eggs were collected on the same day from a large flock, so they should all be different mothers. There were 4 white eggs, 3 light brown eggs...
You could also set them in another pot of dirt nearby while still attached to the mother plant. This mimics what would happen in nature. Once they set strong roots in the new pot you can cut them off from the mother. Good luck!!

Thanks for keeping us updated on your experience with this. I was also curious about it when I saw the bags at Tractor Supply. I currently use hemp in my coop and I love it, but I've been keeping my eye out for alternatives if the hemp becomes unavailable or uneconomical.

Aw! They"re beautiful! Yes, the differences in your birds are much more obvious at this point. Thanks for sharing... I think pictures like that are really helpful for newbies like me who are trying to see the differences but aren't sure of exactly what to look for.

I just wanted to give an update on my Cochins. They are just shy of 12 weeks old now. I'm feeling fairly confident that are all indeed pullets now; but please let me know if you see anything that's indicating cockerel... (No crowing yet!)
