holy cow Sims! That poor guy. Yeah your little man look pretty darn rough. Well that's helpful but I do feel so sorry for your man. Yeah I gave him a delousing bath and keep him in all night and powdered him really well and i put the mammas bee ointment on his wattles this morning before I took...
Ah thanks for the great tips. I will check with my bf about the ventilation....as far as the breeds go these guys were abandoned and we rescued them about 7 years ago, so sadly I did not get to pick them. My roo is an andalusia. My hens are a barred rock, Astrolorp, Easter egger and a bantam...
I believe its ok my bf built it to spec off a chicken coop site..lol..its 4'-6' and about 7'high...it houses roo and his 4 girls. It has two roosts that are about 2ft off ground over the sloped roofts of the Nests box.
The one heat lamp is over the main area/wall mounted feed area.
I was...
They do have a heat lamp...but we will add another one and reposition one over the roosts and one over the feeding area/main living area. Yhea I brought him in this am and he's been In all day and I just let them thaw on their own....I gave him a warm bath bout a half hr ago because of the lice...
Thanks!
I did put mama bees healing ointment on him...its kinda like Vaseline and I been massaging them too.
I have some un-patrolium I will use too tommorow.
So his wattles have thawed out! Oh my gosh how sad...do they hurt? They are a bit swollen and have a black streak that runs through the center of them..the weigh is pulling down his lower beak..
Thank you both for the advice, I was horrified of just thinking of having to cut anything off of him..i dont care if his points fall off...or if his wattles fall off..but I hate for him to hurt. He's my old man.... I am keeping him in the house tonight...he's in my master bathroom. Sadly we...
I think it might be...that's how my roos frost bite started..little black spots. Now he's in a bad way frozen wattles and bad frost bitten comb. I have a heat lamp and deep straw bedding and I feed high grains in winter so the chickens can produce extra heat.
Good luck with your guys...:-)
I don't know what to do his wattels are frozen solid! We have a heat lamp in his house and his 4 hens seem to be doing fine. I change the water twice a day cuz it does freeze and they're eatting the high grain food to help them produce heat this winter .…also i have a lot of bedding in there...
