    Integrating lone duckling

Poor Romy! My Brownie gets chased down more than the other girls because she just doesn't want to submit!! Always interesting....

    Integrating lone duckling

I wondered if it had something to do with an overly amorous drake, lol. Something I learned by experience is that there is something to be said for having a balanced hen to drake ratio. When I had 4 hens to 2 drakes (not my choice, just worked out that way) one drake would constantly mate...

    Integrating lone duckling

I have to tell a cute story about this little girl. She had never experienced rain before yesterday so I was very curious to see how she was going to react to it. It was so adorable, I've never seen a duck even remotely act this way. She sat back on her hauches, leaned her head back with her...

    Integrating lone duckling

Thank you Amiga for your suggestions. Sorry it's taken me so long to reply, I just remebered that my email has changed and I wasn't getting my notices from BYC! I definitely agree with everything you suggested and am slowly moving in that direction. I wish that people would understand that...

    Integrating lone duckling

Hello everyone. I really hope I can get some seasoned advice here. Knowing that I have Runner Ducks someone dropped off a pretty little crested runner at my house. I'd guess she is about 6 weeks old, just starting to get her pin feathers. I'd like to integrate her into my flock, 8 girls and...

    Catching & transporting Indian Runners?

As you know, Runners are little crazy and freak out easily. When we had chickens we just transported them kinda squished down in a box or gunnie sack. Is it the same with ducks? They are siblings so should they be put in the same container or seperate??

    Catching & transporting Indian Runners?

Probably sounds like a silly question, but hoiw do you catch and transport (short distance in a car) Runner Ducks without injuring their legs? There's been no reason to catch them until now, so I'm quite apprehensive about the possibility of injuring them.

Black Soldier Fly Larve for winter protein?

Wow! What a lot of good information! And what a beautiful hen! That's exactly what some of my girls are doing too. It's still fairly warm here with intermittent cold spells so the ground temperature is still good and it's covered with lots of leaves and south exposure to full sun. I turn on...

Black Soldier Fly Larve for winter protein?

I'm looking into setting one up soon. I'll post my experiences as I go along. BTW, I noticed that you seem very knowledgable about runner ducks so I'd like to ask you a question. My intention when I bought the ducks a year ago was to figure out a way to be completely self-sufficient, i.e. no...

Black Soldier Fly Larve for winter protein?

I read some time ago about raising BSF for added protein for chickens. Has anyone had any experience with this. I have a greenhouse that I'm not really using so I was thinking about giving it try. Any input appreciated!

    Green Runners??

Oh, okay. I didn't know since the three original black females that I bought last year are still just black. I thought that I'd created a mutant strain! LOL. Thanks for the input. I wish I had a camera to take pictures. A video camera would be even better, because when they are moving...

    Green Runners??

Hello everybody! Has anyone gotten green (I mean G-R-E-E-N!!) runners before? I bought some ducklings through the mail a year ago and they have produced a couple clutches since then. The ones that were hatched in May are all green. The males are super-duper green (or super blue, or super...
