I didn't say I thought it was cute, nor am I trying to do harm to my chickens. I wasn't trying to give her a break. As I am new to chickens, only had them for the past two years, much like others I have questions. I also have two small kids, a job, and other responsibilities much like many other...
Checked the roosting bar, no blood, however there were a couple of drops below the roost. I looked over the girls, and nothing. Didn't see any scabs on anyone. Might that be a sign? The spot of blood was at least the size of a pencil eraser.
I'm located in the Inland Empire area of So Cal, near the city of Corona. It's hot here, which is why it seems odd that they'd be in a molt right now, but whatever.
As far as how many times she's been broody, in the last two years since she's be alive, I want to say 4, I haven't marked it...
Hi all,
I've read a lot on this, and I'm just confused right now as one of my larger chickens (lavender orp) who I just got to stop being broody for the (4th time in two years) is now molting, but she already molted once last year. Should/Could she be molting again? It seems odd that she would...
So she goes in the nesting box, but hasn't laid. The swollen underside seems to have less feathers than the rest of her. I don't remember it being so bald before...she's eating and drinking, though not as much as the rest of the flock. I did the epsom salt soak/bath and abdomen massage and still...
She goes in the lay box for what amounts to however long she's in there for egg laying, but no eggs from her in at least 3 days. I'm soaking her in a warm bath with epson salts again. I gave her extra calcium, but not sure if it did anything. They're all on a layer feed, and have been since...
I've got an Ameraucauna (2 years old) who seems to have a swollen bottom below her vent. Her poop seems stuck to her in the feathers near her vent and back side. The bottom portion that's swollen seems to have either new feathers or feathers that are falling out. She's drinking (not sure about...
Adding to it, I couldn't get a photo, because she's in the laying box and it's a bit dark. She's eating and drinking, poop seems too wet and a bunch in around her vent. I think she may have laid a soft shell egg yesterday as I was scooping poop and it was in a pile but it was hard to tell if...
I've got the same thing going on with one of my chickens. She is an Ameraucana, normally a good layer. She looks all swollen and it appears as though feathers have fallen out of that area. I'll try to get a photo.
I live in southern California. We don't have weasels here. There are raccoons, but none in this area as we are far from the river/water sources, so thanks for that. I'll try to modify it.
ETA: We may have weasels in CA, but not where I live. Here it's occasionally coyotes or opossums, maybe...
I turned off the heat lamp about a week ago, but the other night they were chirping up a storm, so I turned it back on after I cleaned out the brooder box and they quieted down. I'm just hoping introductions go well.
ok, so I've got my dog's x pen outside with chicken wire on top, shade, water and food. Chicks are between 4-6 weeks (two are from 6/14 & 6/21, two from 6/27). It's about 95-100 here during the day, but only 65 at night. Should I bring them back in at night? I have no way to put a heat lamp...
