Disorientation after predator attack, brain damage?

Update, I let her out with the others this morning and she was acting completely normal. While in the shower she laid another egg and it looks like she drank some and ate a little crumble.

Disorientation after predator attack, brain damage?

Yesterday one of my D'uccles was attacked by blue jays. By the time I got to her she had been on her back for a couple minutes and was barely conscious and gasping for air. Based on the amount of feathers I would say it was quite a fight, but the only external damage is a little wound on her...

Topic of the Week - Kitting out the Coop

What bedding/material works best for the coop floor and the nest boxes? I only really have experience with coarse shavings. I used hay in the nests once but it got too moist. How can you keep the coop dry, especially now, over the winter months? I don't keep any water in it unless I'm shutting...

Urgent - possible necrotic prolapse (graphic images)

Thank you so much for the detailed response. Is isolation still necessary if the other chickens don't bother her, or is that just to protect from pecking? This hen has always been quite willful and flighty so I'm worried isolation and confinement will stress her out too much.

Urgent - possible necrotic prolapse (graphic images)

(Graphic images ahead) I have a 3 year old EE hen who had a messy behind. I didn't get to it the last two days and tonight when I cleaned it up in the bath I realized there was a big problem. What initially looked and felt like a very hard stuck case of pasty vent seems to be a necrotic prolapse...

    How loud are Embdens?

I had a female Embden but I had her with a male and female Super African which of course are mega loud. I'm wondering how often they vocalize on their own, without provocation from a noisier breed? I would get a male/female pair for reference. Though I could do two females if a mating pair are...

Free pullets, hens, cocks, roos, in west/central MA

Hey everyone! So sorry for the late reply, I've been really busy with everything going on and I would forget to check BYC everytime I had a free moment at the computer. I’ve unfortunately lost a few to sleeping outdoors without my knowledge the last month but I'm fairly certain this is a...
