Thanks for asking. We have been vigilant about every day turning on the radio out by the coops onto "talk radio", keeping one of our dogs (Anatolian Shepherd) tied out there (he's still willing to stand for that!) We have a big and small trap set day and night. So far, aside from catching our...
update - we bought a much larger trap today and it's set, hopefully we will not catch a pet cat again. We also bought a 22 rifle finally. In addition, today during the day while the chickens were walking around outside, we set up a radio (we have electricity in a storage coop next to their...
Our dogs do fine with the chickens, the trouble with the dogs if that they go wherever they want. During the day, they normally sleep on the carport next to the house. This is how we all missed the fox (?) the other day. So if we let them off the tied ropes, they will wander back up to the...
we set trap again last night. whatever it was ate the meat off the bones and was able to unwire the bones from the bottom of the cage and flip the cage about 50 feet from where we put it. It was sprung and just had some bones lying in it. We will try again this evening.
can a fox jump an electric fence of 4' high? Or welded wire? The open section of pasture is large, would be a project to figure out with cost of fencing, but electric would be cheaper.
The dogs were upset all day yesterday while we had them tied up in the chicken area. But, the good news...
that could be very helpful to get a camera out there. we set a trap last evening and wired chicken bones with meat inside it. My husband went to check on it and one of our cats was in it, darn!
I will try that right now! We're headed out to do our evening chores. We have a raccoon live trap, it seems small, but I will put some left over bones/meat from dinner adn try as you suggest. I hope they come back soon!
You are probably right, likely a fox with that pattern of taking and leaving such an organized mess of feathers behind. Today we've tied up 2 dogs out there and so far, so good on safety. We have been down there many times, as well. Our coops are not very large and I'm concerned that there...

We studied the area this morning and found a place in the creek where there were thousands of our chicken/duck feathers spread out in almost a perfect circle. There was no blood or bones or any other part. There was nothing hidden under any mounds or leaves or shade trees. We studied...
We are allowed to shoot a predator. (We need to get a gun first!) I wonder if I sat myself out there and had a gun, if the predator would even come around if they sensed/smelled me.
Yes, the killings have been completely in the open. No fences are around there. No hair or fur has been found yet nor footprints. It has not rained in several weeks, the ground is very hard. No bodies at all, just feathers clearly pulled out from the bodies, as quills were plucked looking...
We live about 10 miles outside of a town in Northwest Arkansas. There are woods, creeks, and rivers out here in the Ozark Mountains. It is very rural/country. There are all predators out here. We have not seen one that takes the complete bird and leaves a pile of feathers, possibly from...
We lost a rooster and 2 ducks today. At first it was one bird occasionally, now the predator is bringing their friends. We see piles of feathers around where it must have been taken. We are usually home, though it's several hundred feet out in our pasture. The birds have always free ranged...
