He is gorgeous! Thanks so much! I am hopeful we will be able to keep him. We don’t have a rule we can’t have roosters but we are on a lake so the sound echoes and people do vacation here in the summer so noise is a factor ;-)
How did it work out? We also ended up with just one Brahma roo after we bought all pullets and he is our favorite so I would like to keep him if we can!
I purchased all pullets. I have two other Brahmas from the same hatch date (buff and dark). They have no combs yet and are feathered out. This one still has “bald” patches that haven’t come in, has a comb, and I think it looks red. Could it be a roo?
We had some rainbow pullets from Meyers. We looked at the chick identification and she was initially all yellow with just the mowhawk. Her feathers came in dark! Wondering if anyone has a guess one breed? We have several breeds we ordered and she doesn’t match any of them. No feathers on her feet.
Oh no! We had 15 the first order and the first week we had 2 that didn’t make it and one of the barred rock pullets was a rooster. I sent a message and they sent out lmrwxplaysmsnds
I planned to leave my roof soffit open for ventilation and secure it with hardware cloth. Now that we are all that point I don’t know the best way to do it. Any suggestions?
These are the biggest of my chicks and the smallest. They are a week apart but still the size difference is crazy! The big one is a Brahma and IDK what the little one is because I ordered “surprise” pullets. She is smaller than all of the chicks she came with.
I recommend Meyer Hatchery. They have proven to have amazing customer service and prompt response. The minimum order is 3. Depending on how many chicks you want you will get the best total price ordering 15 because less than 15 ship for $35 and 15 or more ship for $10. I initially planned to...
Out of 16 I have had 3 develop pasty butt. The first one I tried wiping it but I was worried about rubbing too hard and hurting something. What I found worked better for me was running warm water from the faucet and letting it run over the vent until the poop softened and fell off. Then I put...
I am really sorry you have to go through possibly making a hard decision. I did see a YouTube video about humanely culling a new chick with baking soda and vinegar in a sealed container so it would lose oxygen and fall asleep. That might be the easiest option for both of you.
I purchased 3 brahmas locally that were almost 2 weeks old by the time my order came from the hatchery. I put them all in together and haven’t had any problems so far. They all snuggle on and off the bigger ones are just more active.
