I personally adore my speckled sussex. They are handy foragers and lay quite well and are very inquisitive. Plus when free ranging they have a natural camo outfit!
I had welsumers and loved them too. They lay a beautiful terra cotta colored egg with dark speckles.
On the leghorns I have had...
I love the princess bride names as well. My youngest daughter, who is now 28 can still recite that movie from beginning to end. She would love to name our chickens after the movie characters too!
Thank you all for the support in regards to my roo. It is so strange to visit the barn and coops without hearing his deep chuckling at me.
I am going to try and hatch some eggs from his hens...a mixed farmflock. Unfortunately I only have space for 8 eggs in the incubator as I am trying to hatch...
Good evening all...DH and I got the water and electical all in and ditches backfilled. It was hard sweaty work but it will be oh so nice in winter to not have to drag the big water hoses out! Not to mention how nice summer watering chores will be. Whew glad that's over with!
On Sunday my oldest...

My goodness what wild weather we have been having! I hope everyone is OK and safe. Here in Piedmont it almost felt like we were going to have a re-run of the May 24th tornado a couple of years ago. Prayers to all those who have been impacted by the bad weather.
This weekend we kept ourselves...

Wow! I cant wait! Thank you for telling me! We also got one cottonless cottonwood which is supposed to get to 75-90 ft tall. I hope it does!
I really love trees. We lived on an open prairie in California and there were no trees for shade anywhere near us. One of my requirements when looking...
Thank you so much for sharing your pictures with us! I am so pleased to see that what we have in mind should work. I just wanted to be sure we wouldnt have heat stress related deaths. As it was last summer, in spite of hosing down shady areas, using ice chunks in waterers and providing misters...
