Functional Rustic
I am Sarah - proud mom to 7 Muscovy ducks, 1 turkey, 1 dog and 2 handsome cats. I am also the owner and only employee of Functional Rustic where I repurpose pallets and salvaged wood to create rustic, handmade furniture and décor.
My husband and I moved out to the country (we can't even have food delivered our here) and started raising ducklings. We were told they were Muscovy but had no idea what a Muscovy was. In no time at all we learned that a Muscovy duck is a large, colorful bird that may look like a duck and walk like a duck but certainly does not talk like a duck.
The ducks needed a safe place to stay because the barn was not secure from weasels. Using scrap wood from around the barn I built a duck house for the ducklings. It was perfect - for a month. Then, the ducks grew and would no longer fit in the house. Theses ducks are easily 12 lbs each and almost 2 feet long. Needless to say, I built another duck house.
In addition to perches and nesting boxes made from pallets I started to make other projects. In no time I had a barn full of handmade pallet projects. If I wanted to make more I needed to sell what I had. And Functional Rustic was born.
As much as Functional Rustic is about selling the items I repurpose - it is about inspiring other people. I have my animals and a beautiful environment to inspire me - so I use Functional Rustic to share that inspiration with others through pictures, videos and blog posts. Motivational quotations also inspire my creativity so I use Functional Rustic to share the words that get me going each day.

- I am a Muscovy duck mama and want a community of fellow duck lovers to share experiences and stories about our feathered friends. Also, I am looking for build ideas for the ducks that will utilize my supply of wooden pallets.
