Rouens look like big mallards so I don't think it's rouen. I think khakis are more brown but I could be wrong. Maybe cayuga or swedish mix of some kind? Or a khaki mix? I'm not much help, lol.
They are getting so big! We *think* the brown one is a female khaki campbell. The yellow one maybe an ancona. Really we still aren't sure so we're still calling them "Brown Duck" and "Yellow Duck"
Picked up two new babies from the local farm store yesterday. It's been a while since I'd had ducklings and forgot what a little joy they are! I'll have to add some pics when I get home. We *think* they are khaki campbell and ancona. The girl in the store thought "hatchery choice" was a breed...
80-90% Goodness! I don't want to count before they hatch but we were only planning on keeping 5 or so to put on the one acre pond in the back yard. Guess I had better start finding them homes.
I noticed a lot of people on here all use incubators and very carefully montior the hatching process. My sweet girl is sitting on at least 24 eggs. Should be hatching in the next week or so (not sure when she stopped). We had just planned on letting her do the work and hatch however many came...
Can unusually warm weather cause molting this time of year? It's been in the 50's several days recently. Imola hasn't been laying eggs for about a week. She was a once a day layer. There's feathers all over her pen and it seems as though she's not as water resistant as normal. Can the weather...
I have a Pekin named Imola after the racetrack in Italy. Greg (RIP) was a mallard mix who the hatchery told us was a female ancona. He was original named Phoebe because she was a freebie Denny is a Rouen and possibly mallard mix we named after Nascar driver Denny Hamlin. We've already started...
I have two ducks and use two baby pools. One is about a foot deep and 4 ft around. It gets dirty in about two days. The other is almost 2 ft deep and 6 ft across. It can go almost a week before being drained. For the winter they only have the small one because the drain is on the outside and I...
Pretty ducks. What breed are they?
As for the cold. We had our first snow last week and temps in the low 20's. Ducks didn't care one bit. They have a dry house with straw where my hen lays, but other than that they don't use it. I put out a heated water bowl so I don't worry about drinking...
So we lost our first duck Not sure what it was so I'm asking for help from you guys. I had two ducks (a pekin and a mix around 9lbs) living in my fenced backyard. I live in a subdivision in town. The fence is 4ft chain link all the way around. I have chickens in an enclosure and the ducks just...
My drake has gotten really aggressive towards the dogs. He won't let my Maltese off the porch to pee and he chases all three pitbulls across the yard. The dogs ignore the ducks and could really care less until this little guy starts biting and flapping his wings chasing them all around. They...
