how long to pressure cook a cut up 3 yr old laying hen?

LOL. I added 10 more minutes. Didn't really soften up but hopefully I can get the meat off the bones. I haven't tried yet-I just put everything in the fridge yesterday. I'll take the meat off and then freeze it and the broth to use later.

after 30 minutes the meat is STUCK on the bones still. Do I need to cook it longer?

I'm doing it right now and set the cooker for 30 minutes. I added some onion and celery seed (don't have fresh celery) plus 1.5 cups of water and the entire hen, cut up. Do you think 30 minutes is enough? I'm going to take the meat off the bones and freeze it for chicken and noodles next week.

    What just happened??

It's permanently attached to two boards that are attached to each other in an L shape. So when I moved the feeder I also moved the boards it's attached to. It's all one unit.

    What just happened??

We talked this morning and my husband is convinced that is not possible. He thinks it was hiding in the space between the feeder and the board it's attached to. I think he might be right-the feeder looks like this: http://www.southernstates.com/catalog/images/Product/large/06621215.jpg but I...

    What just happened??

We got 15 chicks last Thursday and they're living, for the moment, in a box that is in a coop. The box is about 20-24" tall. We got 5 easter eggers, 5 red stars, and 5 silver laced wyandottes. The coop is all closed up with 1/2" hardware cloth on all openings and there is bedding in the coop...

    Salmonella Outbreak From Baby Chicks

wow-I'm pretty germophobic and I don't do all that. then again it would take a lot more than 3 minutes-our chickens are not that close to our house. We use elbows or whatever to turn on water to wash up but I don't freak out too much about the other stuff. My husband is a livestock farmer going...

    Salmonella Outbreak From Baby Chicks

I don't think there's a treatment. I guess call a vet and find out? The outbreak was about 3 yrs ago so they might not be at risk now. Unless your chicks are older and were from that time period.

Why are my Cornish Rocks becoming so aggressive???

Even 4 months seems like a long time. When I raised cornish cross (are they the same as cornish rock?) they were butchered at around 7 or 8 weeks and they were pretty darn big. Some of them were kinda crippled-the place we got them from said it's because of how fast they grow. Anyway, glad it...

Why are my Cornish Rocks becoming so aggressive???

Some people do raise their chickens for food, and I'm willing to bet the OP does too. She said she saved out 9 of the hens so I'm thinking that means the rest of the flock minus those 9 were butchered. I get that some people consider their chickens to be pets but not everyone does.

Why are my Cornish Rocks becoming so aggressive???

I didn't think people raised them for that long. Don't they get too big? Are you using them for eggs? reading comprehension is a good thing-I see now that you did keep them back for eggs. I've never heard of anyone using those kind of chickens for eggs. They seem like their legs get funky when...

broody hens and roll-out nest boxes

I don't necessarily like or dislike any of them. I just don't feel like fishing for eggs under a hen. But with roll-out boxes I worried that if they went broody they would obsess over where the heck their egg disappeared to. Or maybe they wouldn't care unless they saw a nest full of eggs. eta...

Why are my Cornish Rocks becoming so aggressive???

Oh wait. 4 sq feet is for a coop which they don't usually stay in all day. For a tractor/run they probably need more.

Why are my Cornish Rocks becoming so aggressive???

oh also if you want to try adding protein, cat food is a good way to do that. I just throw in a couple of handfuls.

Why are my Cornish Rocks becoming so aggressive???

4 sq feet is the general rule. No idea why someone would think that was too small. :/
