Re: ensuing posts on culling/not, caring for the sick, and loss.
I did, without a doubt, consider putting her down. However, she was my pet... not 'just another' chicken.
Also, she was my first Polish chicken. If you've ever taken care of a Polish, I need not say more. She was one of seven...
I am so sad to announce that Piotr passed away last night. She was on my lap being petted. I have so much gratitude for your continuous problem solving and collective wisdom. I really truly appreciate your time and consideration throughout this process.
Take care of yourselves! And your...
Semoinole, I'm so sorry to hear about your bird, and I extend my sympathies out to the others who have posted the loss of a bird as well.
My wee Piotr, who inspired this thread, lives. She has lost quite a bit of weight since we last spoke, and I have started to feed her with a plastic syringe...
Hi everybody! Piotr lives, and I've been reading your posts but unable to reply- I've been on the road and visiting family while my boyfriend sustains our bird(s). Her symptoms are unchanged- except he reports that she had a quail-egg sized lump below her vent last night, followed by a STINKY...
Here are some pictures of her "bruises". They're not outright black and blues... just a blue-er looking shade. I also took some shots of her neck. The feathers are not growing back there... they seem to be everywhere else.

Hey Haunted. Nope. Not peritonitis. She just laid another egg today! Also, she's not swollen. Just a little black ad blue-looking in the soft of her belly.
Yeah... ok. After [literally] hours and hours of research, I think it's Marek's. She stops Cipro tomorrow, and will just be doing the vitamin/ACV/calcium/D.
She had a really nice meal of eggs peas grit and papaya today. Gobbled it down and then tried to walk around!
My poor chikkie. The...
Thanks for this. I was surprised by the egg, too... especially after the last one that was so laborious. As for Ex (exercise), I "walk" her around using her own body weight to try to keep her muscles from atrophy'ing while she [hopefully] recovers.
Casport, I am weighing her (as per a post...
Things remain the same. She is strong, but sensitive in the belly. Keeping up the Tx
One question, though. IF this were a worm/parasite, would that be evident in her poo? Is it possible she's having an inner bowel issue that doesn't evidence itself outwardly? Her belly seems a little bruised...
Hello again. Day 5... or is this 6? Either way.
Thank you both, and I agree casport- I have been doing too much reading lately! I'm trying to balance studying for a graduate admissions test on Saturday with learning about chicken ailments but... it's hard. I don't want her to go!
Regarding...
Casport, I am sure that it is not Botulism. Here is the link to the thread I posted about helpful diagnostic/disease/etc info

Re: Botulism.
Yeah. Probably. Been reading [a lot] and realizing that she is not, likely, suffering from botulism. Trying to be creative about approaching her symptoms though, and finding lots of helpful resources while I'm at it! Just shared in another thread.
Hey Haunted. I understand and am acting as though she has Marek's while believing Tx wise that she does not. You had posted a warning about that earlier and I will heed your warning. Thank you again for stressing.
She is better tonight. Laid a nice healthy egg while I was at work with no...
