Ok thanks for that info. And it would be ok to use a tiny bit on the chicks? That’d be good to protect them as well.
Should i discard her first 7 eggs then when she does lay again? Even if it’s a while after the treatment?
Ok that’s good to know, but as she’s not laying or anything at the moment I think I will go ahead with some ivermectin tomorrow and I’ll leave off using the DE directly on her as I think it’s too much of a risk the young ones breathing it in. I’ll spray down her shed and treat with ivermectin...
Thanks, I don’t think it’s technically approved over here either but as I understand that was more of a technical oversight in that it was never tested on chickens as a meat/egg producing animal so no valid info on withdrawal times. But it is approved for use in cage birds and parrots because...
Thank you for your response. I’m in the UK but I’ll look into permethrin. I’ve also seen there is an Ivermectin spot on treatment that can be used on birds, similar to flea treating the dog or cat, has anyone heard of/used that? Looks like that might be less stressful for the hen than dusting...
I’ve got a first time mummy hen with three chicks that are two days old. I’ve just been in to remove the unhatched eggs and realised they had red mite on them. Obviously I need to take some action but I’m not sure what?
I’m worried about distressing the hen too much as this is her first time...
Thanks, it’s helpful to hear others experiences. I’ve also gone with the turning three times a day so hopefully all will go well. I’ll find out in 11 days 😀
Thanks for the replies
The eggs are held in place so they don’t move when I tilt the incubator but they are on their sides. If anyone else tilts their incubator with eggs on their sides what angle/how high do you lift it?
Would turning the eggs 3 times a day be enough if I was going to do the...
Hi, I have an incubator that should work by automatically rolling the eggs when they are lying on their sides. This isn’t working properly so I’m going to need to do it manually and am trying to figure out the best way. Should I
Turn each egg by hand 3 or 5 times a day with x and o marking the...
Hi,
I have a bantam blue dark Brahma chick, 2 weeks old. I’d like to get some unrelated chicks to later breed with him (I think he’s a boy because he is feathering much slower than his sibling?)
My question is if I get some unrelated blue darks and breed blue dark to blue dark will I get just...
Hi, I got some chicks from a lady with mixed flock and I was wondering what colours they might grow up having?
If anyone has pics of adult plumage examples they could show me as well that’d be much appreciated. Thanks
Congratulations to everyone on your hatches, the look very adorable :thumbsup:loveHere is Floof, is he going to be a white silkie? The eggs I got were supposed to be gold and partridge but never mind
I went and bought three young chicks from a lady with a mixed flock so he wouldn’t be alone...
Thank you, I’m in England and given the mess the regular postal service does to hatching eggs I better not risk anything from the US
My other eggs are bantam brahmas so I think they should be about the same size as my LF silkie? In the uk we have LF and bantam silkies, not sure if it’s...
So today is day 21 for my 3 remaining silkie eggs. Two hatched out in the early hours, one is doing fine and bashing about in the incubator :jumpy but sadly the other has some sort of hernia and twisted feet. It’s alive and under a heat lamp with splints and a plaster but I’m not hopeful :(
I...
