Same question here on downsizing-we have 10 runners, 5 black and 5 fawn. Seven of them are drakes and 3 are hens (1 black/2 fawn). Should I get rid of all but one drake or all of the drakes? Is it necessary/beneficial to have a drake(s) if you don't care about fertile eggs?
Also, what's up...
Not a problem-a friend of ours just down the road has used it for years without any issues. It is northern white cedar, not the red cedar which repels moths and is used to line chests, boxes, etc.
Had another great day today-outside all day. Ate, drank, swam, and maybe was happy!
Thanks everyone, looks like the worst is over! I kept the little duck by herself last night, even the other small one wanted to go back with the flock and not stay with her. Kept a light on for warmth. She eagerly ate some tomato and cuke bits this morning with a little multi-flock mix on top...
Conditions are about the same with the "odd duck". We put him-her with the other smallest duck (both black) for last night and let them sleep together. They seemed to get along well together. We added Save-a-chick electrolytes to their water last night-it has lots of stuff in it including...
Sick ducks? We have a flock of 5 fawn runners and 6 black runners. They were all born on July 1st so will be 5 weeks old tomorrow.
The 2 smallest ducks are both black and they appear to be sick. Here are some of the symptoms: listless; don't come to the feeder and eat when the rest of...
Ordered 6 black and 6 fawn runners from Metzers; they arrived in good shape on 7/3. Lost one by the next morning, but the remaining 11 seem to be thriving!
Sorry to hear about your other duckling, but this is one cute duck. Gotta be a "girl" since it's wrapped in a pink towel! See how much I know about ducks so far!
Nice looking eggs-funny how they are different colors! Are they productive layers in the winter? I know that my daughter's chickens shut down alot in the winter months.
Hi, we are new to this site and, if we get any, new to having "livestock". We have a small vegetable farm near Houlton, Maine. We hear that Indian Runners are great at picking off Colorado Potato Beetles and other less than helpful insects so we're considering getting a small flock (6 or so)...
