Really? That would be so great.
I appreciate the helpful concerns. I am sorry I was just a bit taken by suprise with the direction that went!
I used to have 26 girls all for egg laying and sold the eggs. But I had to move recently to a bigger house/smaller garden (baby due) and gave most of...
Guys calm down! I've not implied here that she's hatching all the time or not getting off her nest! I've said quite clearly:
1. I haven't caught her when she's got off the nest to take a picture. I can assure you that a) she has been eating and drinking as I monitor it closely and b) if she...
No she's brooding chicks as we speak which is what we wanted her for and I haven't yet caught her in the act of getting her food and drink yet. When I do I'll let you know.
I have limited information at the moment, I've just had this lovely girl given to me because she's a serial brooder. Sure enough she immediately set upon getting to her new home. Fab news for me as I love hatching chocks with a broody. But it's really upsetting me I have no idea what breed she...
I have recently aquired a good 404sqm meter piece of land for my chickens as well as a substantial hutch capable of holding 40 chickens to a high standard. I was very excited about this so naturally I immediately went out and bought another 20 chickens bringing my flock up to 25 birds. Last year...
I thought that might be it but when i left her be, i think the others kept kicking her off the nest, they all liked that one particular nest for a while.
It looks like i have that issue with one of my light sussex. I dont expect her to go hardcore broody being a sussex and all, but she has...
Funnily enough my current mother hen with 7 chicks was purchased while she was broody. We drove 45 minutes back and she right away chose a new nest and fought like hell for it too. So we had 3 separate sections one for old flock one for new flock and one for the broody and viola, chicks in a...
I haven't had problems with choosing a new location for brooding than that of the hen before so that concept is a little alien to me but one I have considered.
Alas she is definitely still laying she is the only one of my chickens that lays brown eggs so she is quite distinctive!
I'm adopting...
Hi guys!
Okay bear with me here...
I have a largish flock of ten hens and 7 chicks currently. The mommy hen and her chicks are in a seperate hutch and run inside the main run. I then have two other hutches - one in use and one empty. On top of this I have 4 seperate outdoor nest boxes in the...
okay so FAR too many pictures to put all into one post so i made a gallery for them you can find here:
http://sustainablelife.spiderstudio.co.uk/gallery/where-our-chickens-live/
For those interested, we built everything except hutch 1 (main hutch) ourselves, Hutch 1 was given away to us for...
Myself and my partner are in need of a broody hen or maybe 2-3! We have one already that is "expected" to go broody, but if you happen to have one go broody on you in the Birmingham (UK) area and you would rather not raise some chicks we will buy the hen from you and let her fully indulge in her...
After building my mega fantastic run complete with see through plastic roofing for the girls. We ran into a few problems one after the other. This is so that perhaps others do not make the same mistakes! :D
Considerations we made while building the run:
Roofing had to be see through...
She's still on flubenvet. Since her treatment she has been loosing weight - could it be a problem side effect of the flubenvet since she was at least stable before.
She's been isolated still loosing weight - 625 now I fear she won't last the week if this continues.
But in addition one of my...
