    Animal broke in

ooh nice idea. When I first moved into my house I was doing some digging or planting or something around the perimeter fence and discovered some buried hardware cloth that extended maybe 8" or so below ground around, following the perimeter fence. I thought, what a stupid thing to do, and I...

    Animal broke in

Yeah, now that I have the opportunity, I'm reworking the run and making it predator proof. :)

    Animal broke in

Could be, but one of them was definitely carried off. Also saw another coyote this morning on the neighbor's front yard. (maybe the same one?)

    Animal broke in

Ah, no can do with the pics. I've already started tearing down and slowly rebuilding the run/coop area. )The one remaining hen ended up dying on her own; she must have been injured in addition to looking dazed and confused. 😥) That does mean, though, that I don't have to house any more birds...

    Animal broke in

Hi all - This morning I went to move our girls' feed under a roof since there's rain coming today, and sadly discovered that our NH red was dead and mostly eaten, our leghorn totally missing, and our black girl (not sure her breed) alive, but missing a few feathers on her back, and seemed...

    Production Red, Hen or Rooster?

Hi all, i've got a production red bird recently, and I think its a hen, but a couple things have me wondering. It's bigger than my other two birds, which are RIR and Buff Orpington Hens. And her (his) comb/wattle is bigger than I've seen on any other bird I've had, including a White Leghorn...

    Egg laying longevity?

Hi everyone - I've got two those island reds, one of whom is probably getting close to three years old, and her egg production is slowing down quite a bit (although she still goes and sits on the nest...kind of interesting) I've eaten one of my birds before when she was past the useful egg...

Keeping sparrows, etx out of the layer feed

This far I've more or less been letting my two hens free range in my backyard almost 100%. This has plent of drawbacks, and I'm in the process of building a run to confine them for several hours per day if not most of the day. (as you can guess, my backyard is basically destroyed. :-) I've also...

    Keeping Chickens off the concrete?

So I've had my girls for over a year now, generally going well. After a couple of mishaps (lost two hens, one of which was my best layer) my dog is now getting along with the girls very well and leaves them alone. I did the thing where I tied the dead bird around the dog's neck and she suffered...

    Broody Leghorn

Well I did a little googling and did the baptizing method - a couple days of that and she was back to normal, although she's not laying again yet...any idea how long before they start laying again? Thanks! Ps I wanted to do the wore cage but I only have a really small one - like barely big...
