    RIR? Boy, girl or bantam?

That was my latest guess too! She came from a hideous meat auction where the birds are badly mistreated. She's gone from being terrified of her own shadow to eating out of my hand, so hopefully she really is a she & can have a long & happy life with us :)

    RIR? Boy, girl or bantam?

This one weighs under 1.5kg & that's pretty much all I know. Do you think pullet, roo, or bantam pullet about to lay?

Not an Emergency...Marek's in the Flock

Thanks everyone. We're pretty devastated. Awful waking up this morning without her. The vet was lovely. He gave her some gas so she didn't feel the needle. He was positive it was Marek's. Now just hoping Ruby will be ok. The vet said it would take her a month to accept that Tunes is gone and...

Not an Emergency...Marek's in the Flock

Thanks Kathy. I'm absolutely heartbroken. I didn't think I would ever get so attached to her, or lose her like this.

Not an Emergency...Marek's in the Flock

Hi all, Just letting you know we've made an appointment for Tunes tonight and she'll most likely be put down. She can flap her wings again and still move her legs, but she still can;t support herself at all and yesterday she lost all interest in food. I love her dearly but I'm not going to keep...

Not an Emergency...Marek's in the Flock

Thanks for your input, Haunted. I got a B complex today (they didn't have super b) and got some into her and she also had meal worms, yoghurt, & no mash. I'll ask the vet to test her blood on,Monday when he opens again. The strange thing is the lurching around 2 days after the implant and before...

Not an Emergency...Marek's in the Flock

this is what she looks like if left to her own devices (she was only there for long enough for me to put the blanket she messed all over in the wash & get another one). Nambroth yours is the story that concerns me most as there are definite similarities with the sudden onset & the posture &...

Not an Emergency...Marek's in the Flock

Wouldn't Kale be ok as it's a brassica? I'm in Australia. We got her from the market when she was six weeks old with another isa brown (ruby) they were meant to be vaccinated, but the vet reckons that it's 50/50 whether they actually were. She started laying at 21 weeks, all fine for a week. The...

Not an Emergency...Marek's in the Flock

She has us all, including the vey, stumped. She's also occasionally trying to preen and missing her feathers, which could be down to the calcium absorption issue. At this point I really can't see a happy ending but I'll keep doing everything I can for her. The vet said she wouldn't be in any...

Not an Emergency...Marek's in the Flock

w You can see that we have to back her up against something to keep her upright or she rolls onto her side. Her left eye has been like that forever. I think her irises look the same as they did before. If we lift her in the air she paddles her legs, so they both move but she just seems to throw...

Not an Emergency...Marek's in the Flock

Yep, she's always been a bugger of a chook. She had a hormone implant last Friday to stop her laying (she was laying around 10 a week & having real trouble getting out the 3 or 4 soft ones ) so the last she laid was Monday or Tuesday - not soft but very thin. She's had yoghurt & scrambled eggs...

Not an Emergency...Marek's in the Flock

Hi again. We called the vet back a couple of times this week, when she first went downhill & then again yesterday. He gave her a multiple vitamin shot, apparently quite a high dose, but thought the staggers were due to her inability to absorb enough calcium, so the vitamin D in it would work...

Not an Emergency...Marek's in the Flock

Hi Haunted, She gets organic layers mash (made up with hot water in the morning and evening, it's been cold here) she also has it available to her all day, a small amount of scratch (handful or so between the two of them) sometimes a scrambled egg, greens and grated veggies and she free ranges...

Tunes has her appetite back! She just ate a good breakfast :)

    Rickets

Thanks casportpony. She went a bit crazy laying a couple of weeks ago (she only started a week before that) and was laying an average of about 10 eggs a week, 3 or 4 of which had soft shells, and I was giving her a calcium supplement which made him think her wobbly legs were because of a vitamin...
