    Thank you all for the welcome and sound advice! It certainly takes a village. I’ve been using coconut oil but will give olive oil or Vaseline a try.

    It’s an old trough that seems big now but I think they’ll outgrow it be for the outside coop will be warm enough. I have brooder plate propped up on one side. It doesn’t seem very consistent. Right now it’s at 90 on the lower or warm end (not propped up)

    Teaching chicks to dust bathe?

    What did it look like? This morning, one of my 10 day old chicks (very active and healthy, I think) started doing a funny backwards scoot while flapping. Once she started doing it, two more started. I was worried at first but when I put my hand in to check on them, they hopped up and ran normally.
