    WTB-ISO German line NH chicks

Hello out there! It's still late winter here in NH, not time for chicks to arrive yet. I am looking for some hatched day old chicks of the German line NH chicken, for arrival here in NH between late April and mid May. Or when you can get them here! Give or take a dozen chicks would be great...

Post your Pop Door (and lock) pics

I am just sort of jumping in here without reading through 14 pages of replies. I have never built this design, not yet anyway, but since the day I found this video I put it on my bucket list for the next coop. Looks simple enough, the wood pieces need to be similar but not identical in all ways.

The coops I've built aren't that nice looking (pretty nice work by the way) but like you I build them and my runs like a fortress. I've never lost a bird to a predator or dog yet. I doubt you will either.

...on November 10th, 1975, was the night the Edmund Fitzgerald went down in a horrendous, Lake Superior storm. All 29 crew members perished. God bless them for all eternity.

Asked Neighbor to stop shooting.....now what?

Idiots with guns is never going to go nicely. They give the rest of us a bad name. I would not back down, and yes make a paper trail.

    What predator would do this

A hawk, or a bobcat. I don't think anything else would take 2 birds and not leave any sign.

    Turkey Vultures

They've been around for a few days already, and no attack on your flock. There is your answer. If your encounter was early in the morning, before the day warmed up, you likely pushed them off their roost from the night before.

Kindly getting rid of wild birds *Update*

I don't think you need worry about killing baby birds. For nearly all species, nesting season is pretty much finished.

    Mistaken Beliefs Concerning Traps

Mistaken belief's regarding live trapping Many people live trap animals and then drive them several miles away and release them. The idea being this is an act of humane kindness, a much better outcome than killing the animal. But if one takes the time to do a bit of research, reality starts to...

What kind of bugs are these???

If they are fleas, they can carry and transmit tapeworms, just as an FYI. So it is possible you might need to treat your flock for that as well.

What kind of snake is this?

Female copperhead with newborn. Note the bright greenish-yellow tail on the little one.

    Hawk is taking my chicks

If the CDs are all stuff like Bruce Willis, Milli Vanilli, or Paris Hilton, they will for sure keep everything away.

Do you believe in defending you and yours?

It has to start with a solidly built coop. I realize that not all people have good carpentry skills, but there is no excuse for repeated entry in to a flock's roosting place by the same critters. It isn't difficult to secure a coop. All coops should have a fully enclosed run too, so that you...
