Lethargic hen for 3 days with darkening comb.

We are now at 3 weeks. We've concluded that she isn't contagious. She eats semi aggressively and we've seen her running on occasion. Her tail is still down and she keeps her head in tight to her body. I think her father are starting to look a little rough.

    THE great egg mystery

we have 5 hens. 4 are about 6 months old; a silkie, a buff Orpington, a jersey giant, and a Plymouth barred rock. Lilly the barnevelder is younger. We found 3 small white eggs three days in a row about 2 weeks ago. Then we started finding brown eggs and never saw another white egg. At first...

Lethargic hen for 3 days with darkening comb.

No word on poop. Wife says she was drinking water this morning and very low energy. Two hens have started laying. It's possible she's ready to lay but no eggs from her that we know of.

Lethargic hen for 3 days with darkening comb.

our 6 month old jersey giant has been hiding out on her own for three days. We had another hen get sick a month or two ago and recover after a day so we weren’t too worried at first. But now her normally bright red comb seems to be darkening and she’s really low energy. I thought it looked...

    Small rooster / pecking order

Is that possible? We got him at TSC from the silkies and Easter Eggers bin. I'm not surprised the were wrong on the sexing...60% success so far. But to have a completely different breed (it is different right?). I looked up a picture of the d'uccle cockerel and I'd does look like Cha Cha. A...

    Small rooster / pecking order

So we have a flock of five 9 week old hens. Except I suspect the littlest one (Cha Cha) may be a rooster. I believe she/hes an Easter egger. Never makes a peep.....no crowing, clucking or cooing. Cha Cha seems to be at the bottom of the pecking order. He/she is half the size of the other...

    Converting shed to coop

Hi, we’re new to chickens and have a flock of (5) 5 week old hens. I’m building a coop and run out of an 8x10wooden shed we have. I took the doors off. I’m building a 4x4 coop inside the open shed and attaching an 8x9 run to the front of the shed. That seems like a good amount of space to...
