Is it possible for a cockerel to look like a pullet in an auto-sexing breed?

Just called Meyer back at the 10 week mark... and I am happy to report that this time I wasn't hassled about it. The nice gentleman I spoke to this time just looked at three photos I took of the rooster today and refunded/credited the credit card I used the value of the bird. I am pleased by...

Is it possible for a cockerel to look like a pullet in an auto-sexing breed?

I may just do that... But not this year... My coop is built to house up to 10... I have 5 now, and got 5 chicks, assuming I might get a roo out of the australorp, blue andalusian or lavender orpington... So far so good on them... I did in fact end up with a roo... I just wasn't expecting it to...

Is it possible for a cockerel to look like a pullet in an auto-sexing breed?

I get that... I was saying... I wasn't really worried about the adult appearance in regard to the breed standard. Breeding to maintain the auto sexing trait is totally the hatchery's job... chickens look totally different at 3 days than they look at 365 days... so I think it's ok to breed a...

Is it possible for a cockerel to look like a pullet in an auto-sexing breed?

Yeah, well, it's a hatchery grade cream legbar... what can you say? I typically don't expect show quality chickens out of hatcheries... and I was not so much concerned about breed representation as much as I was about getting that blue egg out of the pullet I ordered... so... I'm not stressing...

Is it possible for a cockerel to look like a pullet in an auto-sexing breed?

So, yeah... without a doubt... this is a rooster... I called up Meyer... and they have explained to me that what they do is multiply the number of birds you order, by 10... which in my case is 5 x 10 = 50... and then count the rooster... so... even though 20% of my order was...

Is it possible for a cockerel to look like a pullet in an auto-sexing breed?

Unfortunately, living in Kansas City, I don't know many others who can take a rooster... According to our ordinance, he'll be illegal to have after he's 16 weeks... he'll also be too small to really make a meal out of at 16 weeks... So... my husband is already complaining about the price of...

Is it possible for a cockerel to look like a pullet in an auto-sexing breed?

I just went to their policies page... "We offer a 90% sexing accuracy guarantee or your money back. For errors resulting greater than guarantee, we will refund the difference between the female and male price. Sexing errors can be reported when birds reach 10 weeks of age and no later than 18...

Is it possible for a cockerel to look like a pullet in an auto-sexing breed?

Sounds like I'll need to talk to the hatchery... :/ Any experience or advice on an amicable and positive way to approach this?

Is it possible for a cockerel to look like a pullet in an auto-sexing breed?

I also want to be clear... the chick definitely looked like a pullet to me when it arrived... of course, I am not a professional, nor have I seen any Legbars aside from this one... but there was no white spot... so... I am not going to in guns blazing and blame the hatchery if it is indeed a...

There was no white spot on the back of the head... and it had the chipmunk stripes that typically indicate a pullet.

That's the next best I've got... the legbar is the one in the middle. For some reason, all of the other photos I've got, the lav-O is standing in front of the Legbar
