As a Mom to 4 cats, I've had that problem too. He likes to shread soft things, obviously. . . He might like one of those cardboard scratching boxes that lay flat on the floor. Some of my cats liked it and one thought it was a nifty catbox. I think the plastic cover idea is really worth...- ginnyk
