Wow, 4/5 were boys, that really does stink! Sorry you've ended with so many boys. I wish you better luck in any future chicks yiu get :) On a side note, one of my Barred Rocks squatted yesterday so hopefully will be seeing eggs soon.

Thank you, she has turned out very nice. I always say gray but it could be considered lavender. She was chocolate brown as a chick. It was interesting to see her change as she grew. And yes, they both have the three row combs which I think was making everyone lean towards boys when they were...

That's what I was figuring too. My first batch of chickens were all Buff Orpingtons and I had a boy in the group. We were pretty sure at five weeks but by 22 weeks he was definitely ALL boy. I got six chicks in this batch, 2 barred rocks, 2 speckled sussex and 2 Easter eggers. I think I really...

Yay! :weee I was hoping they were girls. Especially at the age they are at. Looking forward to eggs soon. My three older girls started molting awhile back so I haven't had any eggs :( EEs are super hard to figure out whether they're boys or girls for sure. Now we wait to see if they lay colored...

Here are my two EEs now at 22 weeks. I had posted when they were younger and there was talk that they both might be boys :( I'm hoping now at this age they are not boys. They both look like they have pointy neck feathers because of the darker feathers but if you lift the feathers they have...

Oh No :( That will really stink! I just looked at the chicks and to me they barely have any comb, but these are also the first EE's I have ever had. Maybe the pictures make them look bigger, LOL I will definitely post updates as they chicks grow.

Thanks! I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for sure. what did she look like as a chick? My second one was brown. The yellow chipmunk is the first EE picture posted. I've been reading this thread from beginning but started to jump around cause its so long, lol. I've seen pics of boys with...

EE's are just so amazing with all the colors and how much they change from chick to adult too. I have two, already wishing I had gotten more :) I'll post pics of my two. They are only about 3 1/2 weeks old. Here's the first one. All the reading about the red scares me a little though. But...

New coop build/ventilation and roost placement questions

Are you thinking the opening all across the over hang are vents? I suppose they could be, it does open into coop. You'd have to put hardware cloth over openings to keep predators out. Way too easy of an access to inside. I'm actually covering that up with trim and I'm cutting long rectangular...

New coop build/ventilation and roost placement questions

We are building a new/bigger coop. I have some questions about ventilation and roost placement. I'll give as much info as I can to help with any suggestions on the matters. I will also include two photos. Ok, so I am putting vents on each 8' end as drawn. I have it that way now in my old...

    Sexing Barred Rocks

Well that gives me hope :) I'm not going to get too worried yet because they are still so young. And the one in the back is also a barred rock? There is quite a difference for sure! :( I'm keeping my fingers crossed for awhile more because they are so young. I'll take some more pictures this...

    Sexing Barred Rocks

Hi everyone. I know it's very young age to ask, but since I have side by side photos I figured I'd throw it out there just to see what others thought. They are only 2-2.5 weeks old. I know from reading that the boys are lighter than the girls so I didn't know if the one on the left showing a...

    Buff Orpington Roo?

Hmmmm, I'm on the fence on this one. I have Buffs and my one boy was much redder even at 5 weeks and he had a tail. I had a girl that grew her tail out later than everyone else and I thought for sure she was going to be a boy but she's all girl. But, I only have my Buffs to compare too. And...

My first batch were all Buff Orpingtons and one took forever for the tail to grow. We called it Bob (as in bobtail). I thought for sure that one was going to be the boy. I did get a boy, but it wasn't that one, lol. We still call her Bob, poor thing. But the name just kind of stuck. The...

Eeek just 75% Do they vent sex them I wonder? I guess we'll just pick two and hope they are girls. Thanks for responding. I'm sure I'll be posting pics on here asking for opinions as they grow.
