    Bresse Chickens From Sunbird Farms??

Thanks for the info. I'll be doing a mini-experiment here raising out Bresse, Speckled Sussex and Barred Rock to compare for meat birds. Still haven't found a meat bird that roasts up well, so it sounds like I may get a winner with the Bresse.

    Bresse Chickens From Sunbird Farms??

I ordered hatching eggs from Bresse Farms May 2020. It was NOT a good year to have eggs shipped. The eggs arrived broken, cracked and stinky. I only got 2 out of 72 to hatch and I usually have a 95% hatch rate with shipped eggs. Anyway, they weren't able to refill the order at that time to...

    A Bielefelder Thread !

Yes, you are right.... VERY pretty and a great temperament. I don't have any in the flock now, but I do have some Welbars and they are similar in look and temperament. They too are autosexing, but lay a darker egg. Always fun trying out new breeds.

    A Bielefelder Thread !

If I want to make sure I have fertile eggs for hatching, I keep a ratio of about 10 hens to 1 rooster. Since I have found my Bielefelder roos to be fairly mild mannered, I have successfully been able to keep 3 roos together, even a mix of breeds, with about 15-20 hens. That's about an average...

Ended Official BYC Mini-Contest - Fabulous Feather Photo Contest

I had NOTHING to do with the addition of this guinea feather on the RIR egg. It came out of the nesting box already decorated!

    ISO Hedemoras in VA

I finally did hear back from them, but by that point, I had decided to go with Icelandics. There are more people around me with flocks and there is a greater genetic diversity with imports for breeding. Good luck!

    ISO Hedemoras in VA

Are you a member of this group? I have requested to be added, but haven't heard back yet. I am very interested in establishing 3 breeding groups for genetic diversity in the Central NY area. Any feedback would be appreciated.

    Hedemora chicks

Yes, I am interested as well and am in Central NY.

    Hedemora Thread

Is there anyone out there breeding Hedemoras? I am interested in connected with some people within a 6 hour drive from Central NY. Thanks!

    A Bielefelder Thread !

Not sure about the genetics of autosexing breeds, but it would make sense that breeding one autosexing breed to another would continue that trait. Barred Rocks are used to create sex linked hybrids (one generation). I don't think Barred Rocks are an autosexing breed. Would be an interesting...

Dual purpose roosters, when to butcher.

I'm new to using my cockerels as meat birds, but am happy to share my experience. Last year, I completed several rounds of hatching and of course, given the odds, had way too many cockerels. The birds were dual purpose German Bielefelders and Bielefelder Rhode Island Red hybrids. When I had...
