    Horrified- What is it?

Unfortunately due to the depth of the container I could not get another photo and it has been disposed of. If I am correct it was laid by a hen who had chicks early this year and this is the first egg in months.

It's the first time I've seen this and I fear it looks like a worm! Please help. Thank you.

    Why aren't they laying

Thank you for that. I'm sorry I missed this reply previously. it seems my ladies are just slower at development. their wattles and combs have finally started growing over the past 3 weeks. I must add that my other thought is that I was given these eggs to hatch. some where Hyline/Sussex and...

    Why aren't they laying

Age is correct, I kept records and they are the only Sussex that I have. I'll be patient for a bit longer, because they definitely don't look are mature as the others . thank you

    Why aren't they laying

I have attached 3 photos of my Sussex. They are the same age. To the best of my knowledge they are all hens, as the roosters which are the same are obviously roosters already. I have 5 hens of which 2 have beautiful red wattles, the other 3 don't. Only 2 are laying. What could the reason be...

Chickens accidentally locked outside all night.

I live in South Africa and in the area that I live our temperature seldom drops below 3 degrees. I'm not counting chill factor when it's windy, but my chickens sleep in a tree by choice! Come rain or shine, they insist on roosting in the tree. Perhaps put it in a warmer area and watch it.

    Astrolop or mishap?

Thank you. After talking to the breeder, I also believe it was not intentional. I do thinkthink it could be "family" although he had multiple hens and roosters. So these could be brother/sister. If I was to bring in a new rooster (or hens) do you think I could eliminate this. I had hoped to...

    Astrolop or mishap?

Nope, not a chance. I mark them clearly. My other hens have "chipmunk" looking chicks. Until December was not 100% sure that I had a problem, as I had another Astrolop in the area too, but at that stage I thought it was a she. one day I suddenly saw the tell tale ''tail feathers", so I removed...

    Astrolop or mishap?

I bought Black Astrolop day olds from a local breeder. I saw his breeding pairs and they were beautiful strong big birds. the hens had lovely red wattles and the roosters well developed combs and wattles. Unfortunately of the 6 I got I ended up with 2 hens. I kept them and 1 rooster. When they...

Difference between Black Australorp, and Black Orpingtons?

Yes, I agree there is a mix. I hatched it as an "Astrolop" from a neighbour.
