Howdy all. We're located in St Tammany Parish. Having problems with predators. The few survivors are looking for a good home. This flock was given to me, and I'm not sure what kinds I have. Would hate to mislead. The ladies lay green or brown eggs, and the rooster is scared of his own shadow...
Just hit reply. There's a photo icon (to the left of the video icon) click that and choose your pics. You can preview your preview everything before you post, and if still isn't right after you post, there's a little pencil at the bottom left corner to edit it. Hope I helped clarify a little...
A dear friend of mine just found out that I have more chickens. She informed me that it's a bad idea because my kids will get scabies. I asked her of she was aware that her cat could possibly contract HIV. She suddenly stopped her sermon and ended our conversation to call her vet. I felt kinda...
This is Cogburn. He's less than a year old, but not sure of age in months. I just got him on July 3rd. He's still working on working on his crow. If I had to guess, I'd say he's a mutt. Large fowl. Cogburn flirts with the ladies by making a sound similar to a percolator.
This is Fred. He's 15 months old, and I'm told he's a Buff Orpington. Fred hates shoes. Large breed. Sorry for the photo bomb, but I made the mistake of letting five children choose which pics to enter, and an in-depth debate ensued.
My chickens watched people tv as I sat there watching chicken tv. I considered renaming Fred "Pavarotti" with all the singing he was doing. My youngest daughter picked figs, but they weren't ripe, so she split each in half and tossed em in. Turns out she enjoys watching football on chicken tv...
Well, it happens every time I approach the run. I can sit down and watch them for a while (happens a lot), and the color returns to normal within ten minutes or so, as long as I'm still. If I move, he stomps, does the mufasa neck flare, and tries to spur me through the fence, all while going...
I agree with sourland, they have to work it out. But I'd advise supervision for a while to make sure the babies aren't getting trampled in the process.
My mother bought a few chicks from the local feed & seed in Spring 2012 for my kids. They were cuddled and held a LOT. All were very docile as they grew. About 3 months later her neighbor's dog found them, and Fred was able to protect a few. My oldest nursed Fred back to health, and the neighbor...
Very neat. Haven't seen one before. My kids are always catching critters for me to look up on the internet. Here's the million dollar question... Do they eat mosquitoes?
I'm trying to picture what a dairy hen would look like while trying to roost. Bet they'd look like a circus act, pitching to the front and hanging upside down from the roosting pole. What sleeps upside down? Bats. Lactating vampire dairy hens. Yikes.
