I have a female dewlap tolouse that has for around 3 weeks sat on eggs. I've candled a couple and they appear to be developing. I wasn't sure they'd be fertile because I've never witnessed my gander mate with her, but I guess it happened. I was sick and my husband has been taking care of the...
I'm hoping that's the case! I was fortunate to get to watch my others hatch and find their legs, and they seemed to do so fairly quickly without any issues. But then they all were able to hatch unassisted! I'll keep an eye on him.
I'll be sure to get some electrolytes in town! I have some...
Very late update, but in case anyone finds this thread, I came home from work that day to find all my females had wormed their way into the pop up tent with the geese. The females were very nice to my little gosling and didn't beat up on her at all, they were just hanging out. Very odd.
I just...
So my ducklings have started to hatch in an incubation that was rife with issues, shipped eggs coming to a 10,000 ft elevation, multiple half day power outages, multiple wrong end pips. Out of the initial 17 viable eggs I started with, I was whittled down to 11 by lockdown. 5 have hatched so...
I do have two feed and water stations, but the little one follows the flock, so she only seems to go for the feed and water stations everyone else is at, which means she is pushed out and nipped at. At least during their short supervised stints together.
Not sure if this is suited for the goose or duck forum, please move to the other forum if it is more appropriate. So I got a pair of goslings, a male that is 4 weeks old, and a younger female that is only 1.5-2 weeks old. The two get along great when they are together. I also have a class of...
I’ve definitely seen that name come up when I’ve searched through past threads regarding Anconas. Definitely on my list to contact when the time comes! Though I didn’t know about the possibility of sexing/trios. Interesting! Thanks for letting me know!
I guess it's more a question of confidence in my abilities as a newbie to handle the process with my heart and ducks intact and if I'll be able to cope with getting a less than desirable ratio than I hoped for. Otherwise, hatching eggs seem like the obvious choice!
Though I can't say I'm eager...
Thanks for the input. The gender ratio is indeed worrying, and it can be scary to think about ordering a dozen eggs, maybe half of those hatching, and maybe half those being females that make it to adulthood, and potentially ending up with less than 3 females at the end of all that and a couple...
Hey all, long time listener, first time caller. Hoping you guys can help me out.
I'm looking to get my first ducks spring 2021, and I'm diving head first into all the research before I dip my toes in the water. But I'm caught on whether to hatch from eggs or buy day olds from a commercial...
