I grind up the shells from our eggs in a Bullet and give it back to my hens plus they have 24/7 access to the oyster shell. Some of the egg shells are really firm, others not so much. The hardest shells are from the youngest hens.
Thank you!
It's in the back between her legs below her fluffy butt. What kind of antibiotics can I use and does it require a vet visit or can I get something at the feed store? Anything else I can do for her?
I have a 2.5 yr old RIR hen who has a swollen, rather firm, warm to the touch under belly.
I found a really weird looking thing in the nest a couple weeks ago and I'm finding pieces of soft shells or eggs with no shell.
She acts fine, she's eating, dust bathing etc.

I've had my Red Lored Amazon for 37 years. She was impounded by animal control in the early 90's. Not one person asked about her so I took her home and have never regretted it.
At the moment we have 2 cockatiels, 3 parakeets, (2 were separately flying loose and brought to me to care for,) and...
I've had a few different large birds over the years that were rescues or ones people gave me.
Some adult birds who are awesome, friendly, talking etc and for sale in a pet store or by a private citizen is one way to get one.

I've tried a few different things, mulch, cedar shavings and sand, for me, is easiest. If it gets wet it's no problem, it's easy on my girls feet and mine (I am barefoot 95% of time).
I actually scoop my coop and the big enclosure and the area at the attached tunnels every day, anywhere the...
I have a "chunnel" as my neighbor calls it. My girls destroyed my lawn in my back yard and the dirt the dogs brought inside was horrible!!! So I attached 6 pieces of chicken tunnel to their huge enclosure that is attached to their 8' x 4' coop. It goes along by my strawberry garden and ends at...
