I've looked through 5 pages of "Most Frequent Questions" and don't see what I'm looking for.
I've looked through 2-3 websites that address my issue but I'm not sure which product I need to use.
I am sure I have mites in my hen house and on my birds and I want to spray or dust both. . ...
Another Update. . . . . .
I had re baited my trap using "Grammie's Mixture" of dry dog food, bacon grease and some canned cat food. I attached a line from the trip plate of the trap and ran it into my house through a slightly opened window and attached it to a brass bell.
This morning...
An update to my Dead Chicken question that I posted on Oct 22,2009. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Since making my inquiry I have caught/killed an Opossum. Re baited the trap but had bait taken from the trap without the trap being set so I re baited my trap and affixed a bell to the cage...
Yes,the young Cochin that was destroyed was probably a 4-5mo old pullet that I had just bought from a lady who lives in town and had to lower her pullet count. . . our local cities have ordinances as to how many "backyard chickens" that someone can keep and those who try to raise up their chicks...
With what you say I can only assume that you are probably agreeing with me that my predator is probably a Opposum. The head is gone, insides are clean as a whistle and a thigh/leg is missing which I would suspect would be fairly tender on a 3-4mo old bird.
In our area of Texas we don't see...
OKAY,I did try to look through the archives and it seems hopeless to find the exact topic I am searching for so I thought I'd "re-ask" the question. Forgive me if I am asking something that has already appeared.
Haven't had a bird taken in almost 2yrs. I trap and kill stray/ferile...
With this experience I have decided to quarantine any new birds I acquire.
I plan to innoculate all new chicks for Pulorum Thyphoid and IF I can get ahold of the vaccine used for Infectious Bronchitis I want to innoculate any adult birds I acquire as well because though this Inspector states...
Oh I suppose that The Diagnostic Veterinary Clinic doesn't want to get overloaded with lots of chicken testings.
This Inspector more or less made it sound as if they only do testing if it is warranted and mainly because this area hasn't had much to worry about up to now.
This Inspector said...
I use to have Peking Ducks. . . . long story short I ended up with 2 Drakes and 3 Hens.
One Drake was older. . . he had all of the girls though the younger Drake would follow like a love starved teenager but was always "booted out of the competition".
Of the 3 Hens, there was one particular...
threehorses. . . . the $25.00 is the fee for registration.
The inspector who came to my home told me that unless I had a bird to die or several birds to die that I could not take them to the A&M Animal Diagnostic Clinic.
The inspector told me that should I have a fresh carcass or if I...
To those of you who responded to me about 10days ago when I posted the query as to whether the new chickens I had that may have "contaminated" my other birds. . . . . . .THANK YOU!
The State Inspector finally found time to get by my place and look at my birds and ALL is well!
I asked...
threehorses. . . . THANK YOU soooo much.
I have contacted my State Animal Health and have spoken to a guy who says he can't get out here til Thurs next week. . . gotta go attend some meeting which almost always seems to be the case with anyone who works for the State. . . my girlfriend works...
redhen,I have been so distressed over the idea of introducing infected birds that I have jumped from one web site to another looking for answers and as best I can remember I think this can be passed onto hatching eggs which also kills my heart as I have a 95% fertility rate and I have wanted to...
redhen, everything I have read in the last 12hrs tells me that chickens that have Infectious Bronchitis do get over the symptoms but as you state will always remain to be a carrier.
One article I read states that the "old farmer" has been heard to say that the chicken merely had a cold but...
Carolyn. . . .. Everything that I research says that after Newcastle's or Infectious Bronchitis I can not use the chickens for egg production which is the very reason I have my chicken hobby.
This new bunch of chickens I bought contained some Cornish Jumbo which I intended to butcher for that...
