What's the deal with turning? How often should it be done? What happens if eggs aren't turned enough?

I've read that a hen turns each egg every 15 minutes. Mot peope seem to say at least 3x a day is good enough. I've also heard that turning isn't as important during the final week on incubation. What would the ideal turning schedule be? What would happen if the eggs weren't turned enough?

    Light bulb types for incubators?

Incandescent bulbs will get hot - it varies with the wattage but they can get hot enough to burn you. Try to match the wattage from your burned out bulb. This will usually be printed on the bulb. Compact Fluorescent bulbs get warm. LED's stay cool.

Dead ducks in 2 different spots

Raccoons will also eat the easy meat and leave you a carcass with bones and feathers and legs. I had a similar issue - occasionally ducks would disappear without a trace, once one was dead in the coop with a broken neck but no other injuries. People here thought it could have been a bobcat...

Poll: What kind of Meat Birds do you raise?

that's crazy that your meat birds out-lay your layers! have you kept track of how much each flock eats? It would be interesting to compare the feed-to-egg conversion rate

Poll: What kind of Meat Birds do you raise?

not very many responses, but this is really interesting so far! CX is much less popular than you would think based on reading the threads here. I'm surprised we don't get more turkey-specific threads as well.
