I also want to support the idea of not having the chickens in a classroom. From a chickens perspective, they need ventilation and room and lots of it.....Go with lizards......lol
Soooo very pretty and such good news. I told my chickens about your Caramel's wonderful outcome and they were unmoved by the conversation. I, on the other hand, was thrilled to hear the news. Eggs as well..........Little Caramel Rocks!!!!!!!
I would make sure there is no trace of bleeding before you bring her back to the others.
They will beck her at any sight of blood......others can kill her. One or a few nights without her friends will be just fine. Go check on her......my opinion. Best of luck. Keep us posted.
So sorry about your chicken. I really think you are doing a great job with her. She will make it. Keep her warm. She must totally heal before going back to her coop with the others. My chicken was attacked by a fisher cat and looked just as bad as your little girl. Keep the wound clean. Use...
Oh My, I hope Santa brings you a hair dryer.....early. They need to be dried and returned to a protected coop. Maybe Santa will come for the chickens too!!! Best of Luck.
Most important to keep her protected. She needs to heal totally. Short visits free ranging sounds good. Can you bring her in your home at all with a lg. Dog crate.? Somewhere to see family activity? My chicken that was injured spent several weeks in our home. We all adjusted just to get her...
a small portion of scrambled eggs might help. change them out daily for freshness.
When I have had to bring my chickens into my home , I wrap the dog crate i use with a light cloth to keep drafts out during the night. . leave top of crate uncovered....just block out draft.
I use Vetricyn for my chickens. It works well. That wound is quite deep as I look again at your pictures. If she picks perhaps a gauze type rap that is porous would help her leave it alone. Have you offered scrambled eggs? Chickens usually love them.....
So glad you rescued your Caramel! Warmth is important. The isolation is key! One of my chickens was attacked by a fisher cat and my chicken lived.....and is doing just great. Keep up the good work.....she will do just fine. Keep us posted!
No worries, they don't need names. I reread this thread and noticed Vetricyn was suggested. You can buy it at almost any grain and feed store. That is the one I use and have confidence in. My chicken who was attacked was also at the bottom of the pecking order. Her name is Sweetheart. She...
