I've built a pen on my covered back deck that has entry into an addition built on...to keep them safe and comfy in winter. Of course they'll have the run of the place while I'm outside..but never again will trust that people care for tir feathered kids as I do.
I've never had an issue before but this year is unusually wet and the girls have been laying more eggs than usual. This hen has always been a challenge to keep clean but think with me being sidetracked caring for a terminally ill neighbor plus taking on mowing pastures..spread myself too thin...
Thanks, I did everything and held her thru the night but she died the next morning. I could smell the necrotic tissue so I knew it was too late. Now I check the remaining hen constantly and trim droppings from her rear. I just took in four week old chick's and 3 black guineas. Not letting...
I am just sick over this. Normally I have plenty of time dedicated to my two pet hens and two ducks but am caring for my invalid neighbor who's terminally ill plus cutting their horse pastured.
I noted one of my girls was lethargic and every time I was home she closely followed me. Last night...
I ordered my chicks on the site..six hens and a rooster. All pet quality.and I've had so much fun with them. I'm a chick magnet...when ever I stoop down or sit..the flock decides I'm the best place to roost and they start pushing around for a favored spot. They are absolutely gorgeous and I...
Dang, still having trouble finding eggs or even the serama's here in north west Tn. Either they are so popular or we're in a pocket of difficult to find birds. Hubs and I decided on hatching a few serama's for pets after researching them. I've hatched, raised and rehabbed several kinds of...
Although I'm not new to hatching...I am for serapa's. I'm in northwest TN and still trying to find eggs to hatch. I have a couple of incubators and a nice size building for raising more, i'd like to start out with pets.
Sounds like you have a wonderful home with your feathered kids. Thanks for posting back. I think this really helped me decide on the Cochins but then heck..keep reading on the Welsummers. A quiet chick..my hubby would think he was in heaven. :)
Hey..another Tennessean! So far, all the places (hatcheries online) well, most..will have the kind of chicks i'm looking for on the 11th of May..I see some locals show the same info. I might be stuck in the hospital next week, so I'm on hold again. Hubby says..yes they'll stick me in..I'm...
Oh cool, yep..I'm a birder from years back and have done many bird counts and ID's for GA and a few in TN. The regulars I have at the moment are : Tufted Titmouse, Chickadees, Goldfinches, Blue Jays, Crows, Rufous sided Towhees, Red Bellied Woodpeckers, Red Headed Woodpeckers, Downies...
This might also be known as MHMB. Stands for "must have more chicks or must have more birds, disease. I go through this every spring..we call my disease..MHBB..must have baby birds, disease. I feel the need to mama baby birds and what evers..every spring. Bob (hubby) never looks forward to...
Woohoo..TN! I'm Greyfeathers ( for all the birds I've had and have that have gray feathers), well, okay..so my hair is gray too. Hubby and I are in NW tn. Right close to Paris Landing State Park and live on about 25 acres of woodland with four other families. Two of which have at least 50...
