    Sneezing and not eating treats

Here's the video. I went out to check on them after sunset to make sure she made it to the coop. She actually came down from the roosting bar while I was there with a flashlight to drink some water and then went back up. No mucous, swelling, or bubbles. I'll have to inspect her for lice/mites...

    Sneezing and not eating treats

Just an update: she still doesn't seem like herself. I gave the rest of the flock some high value treats away from her and tried to put pellets right in front of her so that she'd eat but she showed no interest. I considered trying to catch her again, but I don't have a safe place to put her out...

    Sneezing and not eating treats

I've got a 19 week old pullet who didn't come out for treats today. She was hiding behind a little bush close to the rest of the flock. I went out to check on her after an hour to see if she had moved from her spot but she hadn't. I had noticed a couple sneezes but nothing too excessive. I went...

HELP Chick's insides are outside vent

I'm so sorry. I think for the future it would be best to have a plan in case this happens again so that you can give your chickies as painless a death as possible. 😞

    Is this ascites?

Seems normal to me and she's still laying. I think she is laying slightly less often but it's also been very hot.

    Is this ascites?

Just an update. The abdomen appears to be getting larger to me or the bald patch is just getting bigger. I'm not entirely sure. It also feels tight when you touch it.

    Gaping

Adjusting crop or gapeworm? I noticed one my pullets doing something like a gagging motion today. It was about 6 times in a one minute span. I stayed and watched her for a bit, then gapes three more times in 5 minutes. She's a young pullet--about 12 weeks. I've seen chickens do this in the...

    Is this ascites?

See how droopy her abdomen looks? And then she has those bald patches where her leg meets her abdomen.

    Is this ascites?

I've been worried for some time now that my hen may have some mild ascites going on. I've attached a picture of her after a bath a few weeks ago. Her abdomen seems quite large to me but when she's dry she doesn't have any bald patches that I see in pictures of hens with ascites. She has been...

(I was wrong!!)Pretty disgusted with Murray McMurray Hatchery

That's too bad. I thought they were more common since there's at least two places within 2 hours of me that I am confident are ethical.

(I was wrong!!)Pretty disgusted with Murray McMurray Hatchery

I think of hatcheries as puppy mills and local breeders as backyard breeders if we're comparing to dog breeders. Having said that, I think you can totally find an ethical local breeder if you do some research.

I made a HORRIBLE mistake ordering from a hatchery! (Graphic Photos)

I'm sorry this happened. Because of stories like this I have chosen to never order chicks through the mail. It's just too risky, IMO.
