We rinse and wipe our eggs mainly because of our kid's cooking with them and gathering them. I believe you can get cross contamination if the unwashed shell comes in contact with food. You always wash your hands after being around chickens and take off your barn boots. By transferring...
When my hen's go to roost at night, I've never seen any indication that they go to their food or water. I stopped putting it in the coop due to the constant cleaning and contamination from feathers, droppings etc. I also saw signs of rodents being attracted to the roost.
I always open the door...
I have several Buff Orf. hens that are steady layers. The question I have is that the shells and membranes are rather tough when I crack them. Is this normal or something else ?? The quality of the eggs is fine. Just tough to crack open.
The strange thing is an egg I cracked the other day...
I had several young chicks that needed to be put in with my older hen. I seperated them with a fence for a week or so until thay got somewhat acclimated. I then put them together and let nature take its course. They literally have to establish a pecking order to co-habitate. My hen stopped...
Thanks for that. Mine are starting to fool around in the nest boxes and squatting. I hope this is the indicator. Someone also told me that their combs will get red when they get ready.......beats me. Thanx again.
I have just introduced 6 new 12 week old hen's into my established 1 1/2 year old hen's coop and yard. She is of course establishing the "pecking" order (literally) and has become quite vocal and animated around her new family. She tends to sit on her nest much more and has not had her laying...
Keep it simple. Fillet the fish, dip them in a beaten egg and then roll them in flour, seasoned with some salt, pepper and Old Bay Seasoning ( if you have some ). Fry them in some hot oil until they are nice and brown. Open a cold beer and heaven awaits. Bon Appetite !!
I appreciate the input on my hen, brooding. She is up and about for the last 24 hour's. Still no egg's. She is eating, scratching about and seemingly normal. Being a new chicken person with one full grown hen and 6 ten week old chicks that have not been introduced into her area yet, I am...
For no reason, my 1 1/2 year old hen has suddenly stopped laying. She is so predictable that she lay's daily between 11:00am and 2:00pm. As of 2 day's ago....no more egg's. I can't find evidence of nest robbing but her normal behavior shifted from being out and about all day to just sitting...
