Quote: I've been feeding layer pellets from the local co-op, handfulls of scratch grain now and then, and kitchen scraps. I'm glad to hear that they look healthy. Over the summer they got all of the bugs I could pick out of the garden. I really enjoy them and would love to get more as soon...

Here are some pics of my gals in their tractor - I don't breed or show them - just enjoy them as pets and hopefully for eggs soon!

Quote: They are lovely! Do you have them under lights? Mine hatched the first week of May and haven't started laying yet so I'm looking for tips to coax them.

    The Welsummer Thread!!!!

After much fanfare - I was able to get one flipped over for a look. I held her while my husband performed the exam. He reported that there was only 1 finger-width between bones so I guess the mystery is solved for now. Thanks for all of the information. I have learned a lot reading this...

Thanks for the additional information - I would have had no idea what to look for once I flipped them over!

My ladies have nice red combs and were hatched the first week of May - still no eggs. I'd find some evidence if they were eating the eggs, right? These are my first chickens. They are quite lovely and have great personalities, just aren't earning their keep yet!
