Hair elastics instead of leg band?

Has anyone used colored hair elastics instead of zip ties or leg bands? I feel they would "give" a little more as the chicks start outgrowing them and are easier to remove/ buy/ put on. There must be a reason this isn't done right?

    Bantam or just little?

thank you all for the help. good to know. I think she's adorable. My son claimed her as his. 😄

    Bantam or just little?

This little yellow chick is a salmon faverolle and is the one in question. You see... The one next to it is a black cooper maran of the same age. Now the thing is, I have had a salmon faverolle before (though it died as a pullet) and I don't recall it being so much smaller in size to the rest...

    Dongxiang or Lushi

From what I have found, neither birds have been bred true and both breeds still occasionally lay brown eggs.

    Bad breeding?

Since it been a week since having them, the bald spots have gone away. Shipping took an extra day so I think you are right, it was likely pecking. The one with the limp wing still seems to have that. I'm not going to breed with that one later just in case (if I choose to breed them at all) but...

    Bad breeding?

I recently bought some chicks from a small farm that breeds for color. I was excited to get more variety in our flocks but I'm now concerned I possibly bought poorly bred birds. But, I'm honestly not sure since they ARE basically eggers of random breeds. One has a wing that looks defect and two...

why is my hen getting white feathers

Just found this. It is true! My chickens got attacked by a dog. The two got hurt ( road island red and partridge Plymouth rock) have a single white feather where they lost ones from the dog.

    buff laced polish rooster?

It's my son's chicken but we do not hand tame our roosters. I feel it helps them protect the girls better. (and as long as we leave them alone and don't show cause of threat, they seem to leave us alone.... for the most part). We DO need a rooster for our pullets as we free-range our chickens...

    buff laced polish rooster?

so, from what I can tell, the hens and roosters look fairly similar in this breed but I am really thinking we have a rooster on our hands. he/she is four months old and seems to be sporting a much more red color in the waddle and possible saddle and Heckel feathers. I'm not sure if the more...
