Has anyone used colored hair elastics instead of zip ties or leg bands? I feel they would "give" a little more as the chicks start outgrowing them and are easier to remove/ buy/ put on.
There must be a reason this isn't done right?

Since it been a week since having them, the bald spots have gone away. Shipping took an extra day so I think you are right, it was likely pecking. The one with the limp wing still seems to have that. I'm not going to breed with that one later just in case (if I choose to breed them at all) but...

Just found this. It is true! My chickens got attacked by a dog. The two got hurt ( road island red and partridge Plymouth rock) have a single white feather where they lost ones from the dog.
It's my son's chicken but we do not hand tame our roosters. I feel it helps them protect the girls better. (and as long as we leave them alone and don't show cause of threat, they seem to leave us alone.... for the most part). We DO need a rooster for our pullets as we free-range our chickens...
I do have a rooster I raised and I THOUGHT I knew what to look for. lol but I also never owned a polish. ha. its saddle feathers DO look long and not rounded though :/
