Hi everyone. I have been raising chickens for over two years now. I have decided to write a short story of my experience. The story is told by a brown leghorn named Freckles. I’d like to share it with you. You can view it on my blog. Https://love2create.net/freckles. Hope you enjoy.
Three days ago, my rooster started crowing like he had a sore throat. Then, the next day I noticed one of the hens making the sound of a cough or a sneeze. I know you who are familiar with chickens know the sound I mean. And yesterday, there were more hens making the sneezing sound. Does anyone...
Good morning everyone!
It has been a while since I logged in to the forum or posted anything, but I had to tell you the story of my little rooster. He was born and raised right here on the farm. Besides him, I have 16 other hens and two pullets his age.
I had an older rooster, but...
Yes, I think that is what I’ll do. The only problem is that other hens will come lay in the nest when momma gets off to take a break. I think I have most of the original eggs marked, and I have been trying to pull out the spare ones.
I currently have three hens setting on eggs. My question is should I put the hens and chicks in the garage once they start hatching? And if so, should I also separate the hens from each other? Can the hens distinguish their own chicks?
I made mine from a linear actuater, a photocell, and a 12 volt battery. Predators cannot pry door open. It has a rating of 150 lbs of lift. Total cost was about $125.00
Here is my design on a roost in a 4x8 coop. It is basically a swing suspended on chains. Easy to adjust the height, or remove to clean coop. I have it set much higher now.
My rooster is mean too. We have fun sparring together. When I feed the flock scratch grain he likes to eat out of my hand. He sure is good at taking care of the hens though.
