Pretty devastated. Lost all 3 of my pretty, friendly little Orps to what neighbor and I think was probably one or more coyote overnight. It was something big/strong enough to pull one of the coop doors up, ripping right THROUGH the hook-and-eye closures (two, one at each end!) that I *thought*...
Thanks, I'll take a look and see if hooks and eyes would do it. Right now that requires more brain cells than I have left, I'm afraid. It was a miracle I got this far TBH!
Thanks! It's intended to be a chicken tractor (you can't see the wheels, but they're there, on right hand side) but I'm not using it as such. It'll be a night coop with run attached once I, umm, finish the run. (I've had viral pneumonia and am SO far behind with farm work!)
I'm told this...
Well, y'all, I got brave and decided to get my 6-week-old Buff Orp chicks outside to their coop for the first time.
They seem REALLY glad to be out there, settled very quickly, hunted and pecked and scratched for a while, and now they seem to be digging themselves a nest in the dirt floor in...
Similar question, except I am using medicated chick starter. At what age do I move them onto starter/grower?
AND, more importantly, when I transition their feed, do I do it slowly, mixing the 2 together for a week or so like we do with horses?
Thanks!
Sadly I need to rehome a healthy 3-week-old Buff Orpington cockerel. My straight run of 3 ended up with 2 roos and the other one is already starting to get aggressive with him. He seems like a pretty low-key guy, 2nd in hierarchy behind the bad@$$ boss roo. Friendly, can be handled.
Free to...
OK, it's official, I am a dead-flat-out failure at growing pansies.
All 17 plants I planted from seed INDOORS have now died, as well as the 14 or so I planted outside.
I kinda hate to give up but...!!
Excellent idea, Azygous, thanks for the tip! Luckily, I do have one "herd leader" (I'm a horse trainer, MUST STAHP thinking in horse terms, LOL!) who is very brave & the "try anything once" kinda guy. He's always the one who will try the new stuff.
I'll be honest, I got 3 straight run Buff Orpington chicks operating on the assumption that one of them would die. I have 2 roos and a little hen. They grew up together from date of hatch, they snuggle up together at night, and they seem, at 3 weeks, to have their hierarchy pretty well sorted...
