    Anyone have the "Garden Coop"?

I bought the plans years ago to build The Garden Coop and after buying a prefab coop that is frustrating to clean, I'm going to bite the bullet and build it! So I had a few questions for anyone who has built it or uses it: 1. How much about did it cost you? I'm going to be modifying the plans a...

    Covered or uncovered run?

That's what I was thinking. As it is, I have to wedge my whole body through a small door to reach the very back of the coop. It definitely gets grosser every day... :) And there is literally no way to get to the second half of the run under the coop unless I crawl in the actual run, which I had...

    Covered or uncovered run?

I am really leaning towards building the more accessible covered coop and keeping the other for isolation or sell it! It just seems like the best thing to do in the long run. Thank you all for your help sorting this out!! :)

    Covered or uncovered run?

That may not be a bad idea to have an extra one for isolation if necessary. I'm kind of leaning that direction. I feel I'd just enjoy my birds more if it wasn't so hard to do simple things like cleaning the coop!

    Covered or uncovered run?

I did put it underneath trees, so it gets some sun for about two hours in the morning on the front side but the back has shade and the whole thing for the rest of the day thankfully. The run is only about 4 ft tall and the whole thing is roughly 7' x 5' (a bit more than that because there's...

    Covered or uncovered run?

So I made the newbie mistake of not having the coop done in a timely manner and the birds needed to go outside, so I ordered a prefab one off amazon instead of building the one I originally wanted to. It is really hard to get under and clean it, but I'm going to just try to make due with what I...

    When to introduce new chicks?

They don't really go under there anymore, you are right! So then I wonder if I lowered it to new baby height and put the new ones in there with the cochins if they'd be ok since they could go under the heat mat and the bigger ones wouldn't be able to fit! But the cochins would definitely go...

    When to introduce new chicks?

Hi! First time chicken owner here and I am loving these little girls! I have 3 cochins that are about 4 weeks old. They have already quite a bit of feathering and are big. I had wanted to get americanas at the same time as them but the feed store was out so we just got the cochins. They are...

    Chicks staying under brooder mat???

Thank you! I was hoping since they weren't peeping up a storm that they were comfy!

    Chicks staying under brooder mat???

We got three Cochin chicks late this afternoon and this is the first time I have used a brooder mat. Once I put them in the brooder I showed them under it and they have been under there for the past couple of hours and haven't come out to eat or drink. Every once and a while they make little...

    Chickens, yaupon, and wild birds

Hi! We are getting our first backyard chickens next week and we will have a large coop and fully enclosed run that they will be in most of the time, but I was thinking about also fencing off the back of the yard for more occasional foraging for them (I have a veggie garden I want to keep them...

Want to start raising chickens - Spring/Woodlands, Texas

Hi! I live in the woodlands too! So, technically the covenants state you can not have chickens, and I don't think the bill from the Texas House that would supercede any covenants or HOAs and allow them passed. This being said, there are quite a few people in the woodlands that do raise...
