What treat did your chickies get today?

They are just 10 weeks. I will try cheese, so far they just like their crumbles, I was shocked when they didn't care much about wriggling worms and sweet corn.

What treat did your chickies get today?

What's a fool-proof snack that chickens just love without fail? They haven't shown much interest in dried mealworms, live earthworms, or corn. I don't have hours to spend with them so I need treats they love to reinforce good behaviour, like going back in the **** coop when it gets dark.

How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

Yeah, dogs have high potency gastric acid and a very short digestive tract, allowing them to consume larger amounts of bacteria contaminated food without ill effect.

Dumbest Things People Have Said About Your Chickens/Eggs/Meat - Part 2 : Chicken Boogaloo.

The only dumb comment I have had so far was when I told my cousin my chickens are not friends or family, they are valued employees, they work for me. He asked "What is their job?" Then he said, oh yeah, duh, they lay eggs lol

Whats the most humane way to kill a chicken?

Decapitation wouldn't be an acceptable form of slaughter for any other animal for a few reasons, not sure why it's so popular with chickens. The blood being drawn into the lungs and forced into the muscle isn't good for the meat, the nerves tighten the muscles up, that's not good for the meat...

Dumbest Things People Have Said About Your Chickens/Eggs/Meat - Part 2 : Chicken Boogaloo.

Maybe some folks should stick to the topic of chickens, the debate/discussion around here is not up to snuff lol

Dumbest Things People Have Said About Your Chickens/Eggs/Meat - Part 2 : Chicken Boogaloo.

It's all about choices. Some people really like a soda with a meal, if you are trying to avoid empty calories, a diet soda fills both desires. The verdict is still out on the long term effects, but it isn't that strange of a choice. Life is short and you have to enjoy it, everyone makes...

    Unbelievable mistakes

Whoops, left the door to the coop closed when I cleaned it yesterday evening. Girls were stuck out in the run on a breezy 50 degree night. Poor things!!

How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

Yes, most of the time eye exams are covered under medical insurance after a diabetes diagnosis, and your eye doctor is often the first to notice it's onset. I don't know about diabetes and dentistry because my wife is an Optometrist, not a dentist lol

How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

Don't skip the Optometrist! You should go every year, your insurance should cover if anything is amiss and adding a vision plan is usually not expensive. Very important to keep an eye on your eyes!

Whats the most humane way to kill a chicken?

I picture grabbing the chicken by the head with left hand and dispatching it with the other. Is that realistic?

Whats the most humane way to kill a chicken?

Does anybody here use a bullet to the base of the skull? Gail Damerow listed it as an option in the Storey Guide as a way to achieve a quick termination and debraining (pithing) in the same action. Seems to me like a .22 pistol would be a quick and easy method for slaughter, wanted to see what...

Not Sure If You've Got A Pullet Or A Cockerel? Click Here!

I bought all sex-linked chickens but 2 of them are having reddening of combs and development of wattles sooner than the others. No appreciable difference in size, behavior, or feathering...Is it possible I ended up with sex-linked cockerels, or am I being paranoid?? Around 8-9 weeks old. You...
