1st one has just hatched out!
Just hope it survives now. The one we thought was coming out first seems to have almost given up, whereas this next one has cracked all around the shell and broke free really quickly. Fingers crossed!
Brilliant - thanks for all advice so far. The are starting to crack the shells.
We have a hallogen bulb, towels and cardboard, a container with hot water in and a raised glass cover over the top of the box. Fingers crossed.
Any more advice welcome.
We had a broody sitting on a batch of eggs and just 2 days before hatching due she came off the next and wrecked it - eggs all over the place. I retrieved the eggs - stone cold - and put them in a box on top of our boiler. They are now cheeping and starting to crack the shells. We don't have...
Bought some 'pure breed' eggs to go under our broody's, most of which we can identify, however not sure about this one. We appear to have two of them out of two batches of eggs, just not sure what it is or if it is a cross breed. Any ideas??
Can anyone advise please - We have a new mum sitting tight on eggs that are probably due in next day or so, one egg has already hatched yesterday and the chick is very small. We are worried as the hen doesn't appear to be guiding the chick to food and water. How long can it survive without? Do...
Our rooster appears now to be fully recovered. His comb is back to its normal redness, he is crowing again and doing all the other things he should be!
Thankyou everyone for your advice to help us get through this one, especially threehorses who was very supportive.
Thankyou threehorses. Yes it is Baytril, so I should give him some yoghurt daily too? How much?
He does appear to have picked up substantially this morning. Lets hope he stays that way.
Have started rooster on a course of antibiotics yesterday from the vets. They also gave him a vitamin injection.
Today I notice that he is having his beak open quite alot of the time. He is drinking excesively. He is eating some but not a great deal. He is still quite lethargic, not putting...
Many thanks everyone for all the advice. Our rooster has picked up a little during the day today, he certainly has more energy now than last night.
On examination this morning I saw that he had an infestation of lice! We have scrubbed and disenfected the house and used a lice powder on all...
This morning I let our rooster out as usual and noticed no problems. This evening when I got home from work and went to see them he was in the house and wouldn't come out.
Eventually my husband managed to get him out but he was very lethargic and his comb and wattles have turned very black...
Hi all, we now have 3 adorable little fluffy chicks.
Was just wondering though, when should I start giving the mother hen layers pellets again? When does she resume her egg laying?
Thanks for your support, it's good to know that we are not alone in this senario.
Hopefully somebody can come up with some suggestions to help with our problem!!
