Urgent! What sex? 11 weeks old. The hatchery will take back the Roos

Is #2 still a hen or has it become more rooster like? My husband told me he saw it crow so we gave it to a local farmer. Latest update is that the farmer thinks it’s a hen. The other chocolate that we bought back home was also re-homed to the same person. She says that one is definitely a roo

Hen or Rooster? 4 months old

I have lavender and chocolate Orpingtons. At 12 weeks old I knew who the cockerels out of the bunch. I’m a first time chicken mama as well. One chocolate actually started crowing so I compared his tail, waddle and combs to others. It was then that I was certain that I had more Roos than than my...

Chicken won’t go in hen house at night

I had the same problem at the same age. I hung a flashlight in the coop and kept the side door open. This worked for me. It took about a week for them to get it, and no more tucking them in at night.

I can sex your pullets and cockerels!

Thanks for offering your help. I just returned 6 Orpington cockerels to the hatchery. It appears there was mis-communication in my order. The owner stated I must have gotten a mixed run instead of all pullets. Anyway I had these two in my return group and the chicken farmer told me these were...

Urgent! What sex? 11 weeks old. The hatchery will take back the Roos

Update: the cockerels were returned to the hatchery today and I ended up coming back home with 2 of 8. The breeder really thinks that the # 2 lavender is a pullet along with the chocolate Orpington pictured here. I sure hope he is right! Hi Can someone help me out with these lovely Lavender...

Urgent! What sex? 11 weeks old. The hatchery will take back the Roos

I was able to get in touch with the local hatchery from where I purchased the batch. They are taking the boys back! I will miss them but we can’t have any crowing in my neighborhood. It seems there was some “ misunderstanding”..Hatchery said sounds “like you got a mixed run”. I know I asked for...

    Nice to Meet You All!

I contacted the hatchery they will take back all the Roos, all 8, yes 8, Yeah! The owner stated that I must have got a mixed run. I know I specifically asked for all pullets. Communication meltdown, but all is well. I’m going to be getting 3 barred rocks as replacements. Thanks for your...

Urgent! What sex? 11 weeks old. The hatchery will take back the Roos

I’m thinking all cockerels as well. I was just hoping that the chicks with the lighter colored wattles and comb might be pullets

Urgent! What sex? 11 weeks old. The hatchery will take back the Roos

Hi Can someone help me out with these lovely Lavender Orpingtons? It appears I received a mixed run of chocolate and lavenders. I asked for pullets, mixed communication, but the hatchery will take back the males and replace the 7 males out of my dozen. I’ve nailed down the chocolates but the...

    Nice to Meet You All!

We purchased 6 chocolate and 6 Lavender Orpingtons from a local hatchery. We specifically asked for pullets. So far 4 of the chocolates are definitely Roos. I’m also thinking that I have 2 Lavender Roos as well. I’m going to ask for help in figuring out the Lavenders on BYC. I’m thinking of...

    Nice to Meet You All!

Greetings! After following BYC for months I finally registered. I’m a brand new chicken mama and enthralled with my new hobby and caring for my chicks. They have been my saving grace during COVID isolation and working from home. As I write this introduction my flock consists of 6 lavender and 6...
