    hawks have excellent eyesight, i think the cross stringing should be a deterrent.

    we have a heavy netting over our chicken run to keep hawks from swooping down, and just yesterday i put up two umbrellas for shade after reading someone's post. they'll stay up until the snow flies! (could be Tuesday!!!)

    To any of you who have hawks preying on your chickens PLEASE BE AWARE that, depending on the species, some of those 'hawks' are protected and the killing or trapping of them is a federal offence!

    Predator took all 5 hens last night! I feel horrible!

    so sorry for your loss! it has sickened me when i walk out and realize i have forgotten to shut up the chickens! I have had mink take a chicken, do you live near water? but a larger animal seems more likely since all 5 chickens are gone.
