I also feed mine any/everything and they pick thru it. I have a good size run and the compost pile is inside and I add table scraps/garden scraps etc daily. I have been around chickens since I could walk and I'm 75 now and never had any problems. The fokls who have bought my chickens always...
We got the 1st egg on 8/20 when they were 18 weeks and 5 days old...they will be 22 weeks old tomorrow 9/12. We have slowly worked our way up to 6 eggs some days and 4 or 5 other days.

It's pretty quick and easy to build...I didn't use any plans, just built what I wanted. It's 4 X 4 and the outside is just plywood siding with OSB covered with asphalt shingles on the top.
Kudzu...! who would have believed it. We will have to give it a try. We are always on the lookout for things that are healthful, tasty and help us remain as self sufficient and prepared for "whatever" as possible...as you can see from this latest project.
