    Humane Killing Euthanasia Methods

I appreciate your research and information. My son has often asked me why I don't gas the birds before bleeding them out. He's right, and your article is a nice start. Thank you!

    Surprise chicks, help please!

You'll be fine, just give them some cornmeal and water, or flour to peck at until the morning. Buy some small hole chicken wire, 4' x 4' x 4' x4', and create their own chicken yard within your chicken yard. Put a box in there for them to sleep in with a piece of fabric to keep the wind out. As...

How To Humanely Euthanize A Chicken..

Has anyone ever tried chloroform to put chickens out before slaughter? Would it make the meat toxic in such a low dose? I would love to just knock them out first and then do the deed. Anyone have any ideas on this?

    bleeding out

Hi, I've done a a lot: held them in my lap, slit their throats to bleed out; used a cone; used the broom method on a big rooster. I have still to just chop their heads off, but somehow I find that too undignified. I'm thinking that maybe they won't bleed out right if I just chop the head off...

I learned on my own, and now I teach people how to humanly butcher their own chickens. It so wonderful to share our knowledge with each other and reclaim what belongs to us!

    Chicken Vaccines?

I had half of my flock die and they had wonderful conditions. I sent the carcass to UCDavis and she was diagnosed with Marek's disease. After that, I vaccinate for my chicks for Marek's. It's not worth the risk for me.

    *Buff Orpington Thread!*

I LOVE buff orpingtons. I actually have a hard time taking them out and Americanas, because they are so full of personality and so darn sweet! Orps are just plain gentle, aren't flighty and easy to pluck, no colored pinfeathers. In my early years, I had a beauty named Butters. I cried and...
