    Hello BYC world

Thanks so much. I guess I'll wait a few more weeks to see what types of eggs I'm seeing--and whether any of them crow. Hopefully, they are all pullets, since roosters are illegal in my city.

    Hello BYC world

You think the brown one is the americana/EE, and not an olive egger? If so, then which one might be the olive egger? For the BCM, I can't find any examples online of cockerels at 18 weeks who don't already have fairly grown in copper saddle feathers. Have you seen cockerels that look like mine...

    Hello BYC world

No crowing, or even attempts at crowing, at all yet.

    Hello BYC world

Ah... you are right! I did get an americana, not an ameracauna. Here is the description from the hatchery. But it still doesn't look like the ones in the photo on the description. Perhaps since they are a hybrid they come in many different looks though?

    Hello BYC world

Here are close ups of all three. I also started another post about the black copper maran, because that's the one I worried most about being a rooster.

    Hello BYC world

Which ones do you suspect? I can share closeups of those ones.

    Hello BYC world

Oh no, they might have given me the wrong chick. I really wanted an Ameracauna. Here's a close up of the black one in case that helps to better ID it. Thanks.

    Hello BYC world

Thanks. I had thought that the brownish red one was the EE, the black one might be the americauna, and the blackish grey with spots the rhode island blue.

    Hello BYC world

Thanks! I hope--and think--so, because it is illegal to have roosters in my city. I just posted a photo of them. Hopefully, none of you think I have a cockerel in the mix. They are one day shy of 18 weeks as of today when I took this photo.

    Hello BYC world

Thank you everyone for the warm welcome. Here's a photo of them all. I asked them to pose nicely, but they wouldn't listen. The bucket in the background is just their supplemental water. They have a rain barrel connected to pvc piping that provides their main water source under the coop. I...

Black copper maran - pullet or cockerel?

Thanks for sharing. The age is definitely right, since I raised her since she was only a few days old. I'll keep you all posted on her status moving forward.

Black copper maran - pullet or cockerel?

Thanks for both of your takes. I'm relieved by your opinions. Could such robust comb and wattles be a sign that she might be ready to start laying soon? I have read a few things about the potential connection, but she also seems a bit young to be laying.

Black copper maran - pullet or cockerel?

This BCM is 17 weeks and 5 days old. It hasn't started crowing yet, so I can't tell by that. I've seen some pictures of BCM hens online with fairly large wattles and combs, and by this age, the BCM cockerels I've seen online seem to have much more prominent rooster features. But, I'm just...

    Hello BYC world

Hi all. I just started my flock a few months back with six chicks that hatched on March 10th. I have one olive egger, one americauna, one speckled sussex, one barred rock, one black copper maran, and one rhode island blue.
