This guy showed up at my Mom's out of nowhere last year. No one within a few miles of her has chickens. He was obviously loose for awhile because he was pretty underweight. So after quarantine, he became a member of her flock, but we have no idea what he is. Any guesses?

I had a few soft shelled eggs when some of mine first started laying. I actually got one of those metal rabbit feeders and screwed it to the wall of my coop, I keep it filled with oyster shells at all times. I've not had a single soft shell since. :-)
Its just from a ruptured blood vessel when the egg was forming. I see one every now and again. Freaked me out the first time too! But your hen is just fine.
