Eagle Protection - Guard Geese and Electric Poultry Netting

Hey Guys, I'd love some input here. I am planning on free ranging our 8 ducks out in our pasture along with our two geese. However, we're in the PNW and we have a lot of eagles. I have 4' electrified poultry netting to protect against our ground predators (mostly coyotes - and they're are safely...

    Raising Geese - Questions

Hello, I am getting some geese in a few weeks and I have been trying to read up on how to raise friendly geese and getting very conflicting information. I was wondering if anyone who has experience can shed some light. One opinion is to raise them by hand like chicks/ducks and make them...

New to ducks and geese - coop design help!

Thanks so much for the information! That's definitely a breed I have on my short list, also Embden. Looking to get a female as well, as I've heard the ganders may try to do that. I'm getting some runners, blue swedish, and a couple welsh harlequins. I ended up putting some nesting boxes on the...

New to ducks and geese - coop design help!

Thanks for your input. You don't think having a female raised with ducklings might work? Or will they still get aggressive with the ducks? I also don't have any drakes. It's a pretty small flock

New to ducks and geese - coop design help!

It's about 5 feet on the tall side and 4 feet on the short side, so I can pretty comfortably stoop in there -- but my chicken coop I can't get in to and it drives me nuts. Totally agree!

The African and Chinese goose thread!!

Looking into getting a Brown Chinese goose to raise with my free range ducks as a weeder and alarm bell for aerial predators but I've heard very mixed reviews about their friendliness. I don't want to have an aggressive goose around as we have small kids. Do you think they can be raised to be...

New to ducks and geese - coop design help!

Hello, I am in the process of building a duck/goose house and would love some advice as I have never raised waterfowl before. As of right now, it's a large slanted roof doghouse (for lack of a better description) with plenty of hardwire clothed ventilation across three sides. My main question is...

I would also love to see your materials list with progress report on how it all works out! I'm going to be building a similar set up for my ducks in the next few months and would love any advice you can give. I'm currently trying to figure out the best type of drain to install that will easily...

Have you used a Brinsea Heat Plate?

Good to know, thank you for the advice! I have a couple normal heat lamps from my chicks that I can also use but I love the idea of switching to the EcoGlow as much as possible. Those old ones make me a little nervous with regards to fire safety haha. Thanks again!

Have you used a Brinsea Heat Plate?

Hello, I'm also looking to use an EcoGlow with ducklings for the 1st time. I got the EcoGlow Safety 600 for 8 ducklings (it says up to 20 chicks). Do you think that is too small? Also, I'd love to hear your thoughts on what height to the heat plate at to start with? Thanks!

Questions on designing no-spill PVC/bucket feeder

Hello All, I'm in the process of building a no-spill feeder for my flock and have a couple questions. How many "ports" do you reccomend per chicken. I'm going to be adding to my flock soon so want to plan for the future. Say if I have 50 chickens how many feeding holes do I recommend? 10? 25...

Behaviour of hen before laying first egg?

Hi MLGarber, I have a pullet doing very similar behavior right now. What ended up happening with your girl?? Mine is laying down a lot with her tail in the air, and just kind of keeping to herself. Weird first time egg laying problem or something to be worried about? Thanks!

    Sneezing/VetRx - Can I eat the eggs?

Hello everyone! One of my girls has been sneezing occasionally so I've decided to give her some VetRx for the next couple days as a precaution. Is it OK to eat the eggs? Any advice on what to do with a sneezing chicken would also be appreciated. She is not lethargic, does not have a runny...
