This is just my experience but I also had a broody hen with a nest high up off the ground. Anyways I also wanted her to hatch chicks and we gave her fertilized eggs but when I tried to move her to a lower nest she was there no longer broody. If you don’t want to move her maybe you can just cover...
Looks to me like a Pullet!!! My Wyandotte looked like that and for a little bit I was worried she was going to be a rooster, but luckily she is a hen! I hope this helps a little bit, but I definitely see a Pullet!
While both the silver laced wyandotte an the blue americana look more towards the rooster side I think only the Americana is… My wyandotte also had a reddish comb like that and she turned out to be a hen. Anyways the Americana looks like a rooster and the Wyandotte could go either way, I guess...
These look like roosters to me although my SLW looked just like this and it turned out she was a hen… It was really weird, I am new to Silver Laced Wyandotte’s though.
Ok thank you so much!!!
That makes a lot of sense!! I appreciate you sharing that with me! I will have to think about things. I definitely understand this I’m not sure my hens would be to temperamental for they are very social especially with people.
I really appreciate you replying!! I am kinda a softy and I feel bad trying to break her, I feel if she wants a baby I could at least try…I mean worst comes to worst I end up raising it my self. I really appreciate your insight and I am glad to know it may work with one chick!
Hey guys, so I have a broody hen although she is sitting on Unfertile eggs. We don’t have a rooster and I was hoping to maybe get her a chick that she could raise. Unfortunately we only have room for one more, and I was wondering if I could just give her one chick… Would that be a bad idea…
