You just made my day, I'm still laughing. Great thread by the way, very interesting.
Well it is funny looking back now but at the time she was proper raging and you have never heard so many swear curse words said in one sentence in all your life. She did forgive me though when she seen all...
Hiya, I know this post is old so not sure if you still looking to get some. There is a Guy in Miami that breeds them for pets. Tim Burns I think his name is. I havent spoke to him for over 7 years though, think he does Bobs and Coturnix Japonica too. What he does not know about Harlequins is not...
Funny you should say that, now this is the honest to gods truth here. I will not mention the supermarket as dont want to give them free advertising.
About 10 years ago, the Misses bought some free range eggs from a supermarket. Just normal eating eggs. I took 12 of them and put them in the...
haha Yes I have had a few roos hatch to be fair, but huge percentage where female.
I just been chatting to a few people on a farm, they said they have had great success. Then some one else said the method did not work.
We need to figure out why some times it works and some times it does not...
Love the colour on Maisie! Awesome! It is amazing how they all have their own personality. If you tell some one that has never kept chickens before, they just laugh at you. Let me tell you Ducks are the same as are Quails.
Your Chucks look very happy birds!
Hi Guys, is any one interested in taking part in an experiment that could determine if an egg will hatch a male or female chick?
This is what I have discovered from my own hatching eggs. I collected 122 eggs over a number of days, Storing them at room temperature. I sorted the eggs and placed...
I have seen a Coturnix Quail and it had a black hooked beak and head just like a Bob, was a reddy brown colour. It crows just like a normal Coturnix Quail. I have only ever seen one of these in the UK about 7 years ago at a bird show. Not sure if he was artificially produced but looked awesome...
Did you breed this really nice looking quail your self? If so finding out which parent birds produced this chick would be totally awesome!.
You could have a totally new strain of colour there. I have never seen one with such Gold-Yellow colouring before.
I will just say this, I totally agree with what Penturner says above.
Please do not ever help chicks hatch. It may seem a kind and compassionate thing to do but in reality it can be cruel to help a chick hatch. Nature has a way of weeding out the weak chicks. From time to time you will see...
This could be a new strain??? It looks like Cinnamon mix with Italian minus the speckles! This leads to a few questions. Have you got any more this colour? if you bred them your self, try the same breeding again and see if any more come out that colour. I would love to have some this colour...
That is a fantastic strike rate 35 from 40 survive. Looks like you have a great set up there too. Like the idea of having half wire and half bedding. Did you buy the eggs or did you breed them your self? They all look super healthy and good condition
Hi JSheepdog, When Quail chicks go like this it can be very sad and very frustrating. I will try to answer your question as to why this happens. There are in fact many reasons why some chicks go like this no matter how much we look after them, but I will give you the most common causes here...
